Beauty Pie?

Has anyone tried Beauty Pie? The prices look amazing. Problem is, I've got very pale, acne prone skin. I spent years searching for a foundation that didn't look orange or turn greasy and finally found the Bobbi Brown foundation stick a few years ago. I probably buy one every 6-8 weeks which is £30 a pop. I also like Smashbox primer which is probably £30 a month.

Obviously if I could replicate that with Beauty Pie and pay only £5 a month subscription it would save me loads - plus I could also buy mascara, eyeliner, powder etc too. But it's a gamble - I've spent so much money over the years on rubbish foundation!

It's good in a way but £5 won't get you very far as your monthly allocation is based on the RRP of products so for example you wouldn't be able to buy these two items in one month.

The skincare has even higher RRP.

I think the products are nice and I've liked a lot of them but the monthly limit is annoying!!

Sorry should have said unless you don't plan to buy every month but it's very tempting!

RockinTheLockdown · 02/08/2020 18:24

I joined Beauty Pie a year ago. I love their products as they really suit my skin. I've spent fortunes on skincare too over the years but I've had better results on my skin with Beauty Pie than with anything I've used before. The Super Healthy Skin Anti Ageing Cream is amazing.

Neilsfavouritechilli · 02/08/2020 18:33

I liked a lot of the products but wasn't blown away by anything. I also found the spending limit quite annoying and could often only buy 1 or two products each month on a £10 membership.

Didyousaynutella · 02/08/2020 18:34

I don’t massively rate the skincare. Most of it is full of fragrance and alcohol but I agree the super healthy skin cream is good even if the supposed rrp is ridiculous and uses up all your budget. The cleansers are all nice though.
I do like the makeup and It’s seems just as good quality as most designer makeup and I have repeat bought a few things such as highlighter, eyebrow pencils, lipstick. I haven’t tried the foundation so can’t Comment.
I have £5 a month subscription and buy a bulk order every 4/5 months but could easily take it up to £10 I think. If you buy a couple of cleansers, moisturiser and a couple of make up bits it’s soon spent.

Howzaboutye · 02/08/2020 18:46

Hi I'm also v pale. I'm working my way through the bases.
Actually the primer is epic. It's like an actual soft focus on my face. Bizarre. Colour is great.
The tinted SPF I picked the wrong colour, I would advise the paler one.

For very pale actually the Primark 'cool sand' colour is terrific, it's in foundation concealer etc

BurntOrange · 02/08/2020 18:47

@doadeer Ah right, so if the RRP is £30, I'd be waiting 6 months on a £5 subscription?

OP posts:
BurntOrange · 02/08/2020 18:48

@Howzaboutye That's interesting about Primark foundation, I wouldn't have considered them! My skin is very greasy though, does it last well, with the right primer? Good to know about the beauty pie primer

@doadeer Or have I misunderstood...so I'd pay the £7.97 on the foundation, so might be better to have a £10 sub?

OP posts:
BurntOrange · 02/08/2020 18:51

@Didyousaynutella so can you roll over the sub amount...e.g. if on a month £10 sub you don't buy anything you end up with £20 the next month?

OP posts:
kezziethecat · 02/08/2020 18:52

I did it for a while. I didn't find anything I liked more than the average high street makeup and the skincare made my (very sensitive) skin red and sore. I might have been unlucky in what I bought through and I loved the scented candles, almost as good as jo malone.

Howzaboutye · 02/08/2020 19:04

Yes you pay the pie price, up to your rrp limit. It is annoying. However it is a new way to run a beauty company. Which is quite innovative as the set up costs for facecream etc must be huge.
It's run by the woman who set up fit flop.

Howzaboutye · 02/08/2020 19:06

The eye liner thing really is smudge proof. It's wow. I've got black, dark grey and gold so far. Doesn't budge.
That and the primer are amazing so far

Teal99 · 02/08/2020 19:06

I did it for a while, spent a fair bit a month. Didn't really rate any of the products with the exception of One Powder Wonder, or something like that. It really is wonderful. I have barely dented it and I have worn it most days for a year. I cancelled my sub but stockpiled a few of these powders. I would pay the RRP for this - I think you can do that if you want to buy something without membership.

doadeer · 02/08/2020 19:16
@doadeer Or have I misunderstood...so I'd pay the £7.97 on the foundation, so might be better to have a £10 sub?
Sorry to confuse you!

So for £5 your limit is £50. So if a foundation said
£30 RRP
£8 members price

Lipstick
£20 RRP
£5 members price

That is your entire allocation for the month but it costs you £13.

If that lipstick was £23 RRP you wouldn't be able to buy both the foundation and lipstick that month. Anything you don't use rolls into next month.

Does that make sense?

Teal99 · 02/08/2020 20:20

I just had a look at the site again, to see if there was anything that piqued my interest enough to take out another sub. I just do not believe some of their "real" prices.

Retailqueenie · 02/08/2020 20:43

I’ve been a member for a while on £5 a month. I bloody love it. Happy to answer any questions, I use skincare and makeup but not tried candles or perfume..

If you want a free month use my code below - I get a boost too on refer a friend scheme..

Here

BurntOrange · 02/08/2020 20:48

@doadeer Yes, thank you, that makes sense now!

You're welcome! They make it very easy to upgrade so if you do like it that's an option. Or you might just have self control unlike me 🤣

SuperDuperJezebel · 02/08/2020 22:13

I've been a member since January and I love it. I only pay £10 a month but lot of my friends have joined so they used my referral code for a free month and I've had the spending top up, so I've got plenty to spare as I only buy a couple of things a month. I really love the skincare (both plantastic and japanfusion), the foundation, the eyeliner, the lip crayons and the micropeeling drops. I thought the shampoo was terrible. There's a really good FB group called Beauty Pie Community where you can get lots of advice on which products might suit you best, I've found it really useful seeing peoples feedback on products.

Aquicknamechange2019 · 02/08/2020 22:50

I love beauty pie, I'm another one for whom the products work really well. If you're buying foundation my tip is to buy the sampler first, as it's hard to get the shade right online.

I have the £10 membership and tend to roll over then do a big order every couple of months.

PersonaNonGarter · 03/08/2020 07:29

I’m a member and it is OK. The eyeshadow cream sticks are great. Didn’t like the mascara.

TBH you probably end up spending more than you would do on good quality high st brands. Not sure if that is justified by the quality on everything.

JofraArchersFastestBall · 03/08/2020 09:34

I was a member for a couple of years - I liked a lot of the products but it was a lot more expensive than I'd thought! The products aren't actually very cheap, only a couple of pounds cheaper than the 'high end high street' things that I think they're comparable to in quality. When you add on your membership fee, postage and the cost of buying things that you don't like/use because you can't try things out... and then add in the (enjoyable!) hype and marketing around new products and the 'get it whilst it's in stock' mentality encouraging me to buy more than usual.... it's actually loads cheaper for me to buy just what I need in boots, with the occasional treat of something more fancy.

I've also found my skin is better with a very simple regime (just CeraVe wash and moisturiser) than it was with various beauty pie lotions and potions - but that probably varies depending on your skin type etc.

PersonaNonGarter · 03/08/2020 09:39

I agree that if you are prepared to do some research in to good high st brands, you’ll get better value than Beauty Pie.

tigerbear · 05/08/2020 20:11

Although I’m a MASSIVE cosmetics junkie, I just don’t quite ‘get’ the concept of Beauty Pie. There are sooo many amazing high street beauty brands now, I’m not sure why you would sign up for it.
In my experience, ELF cosmetics are all phenomenal, with foundations around £6. Primark does my favourite nude ‘every day’ lipstick, at only 99p or something like that, certainly no more than £2.
For skincare, Superdrug own brand, Revolution and The Ordinary are all great.
