How do you tame your curly hair? products?

My hair is long, very thick and unruly. Its not hard to straighten but i dont want to be frying it all the time (and cant be bothered).

some days i like it curly anyway, means i never get bored. it looks ok, its not tight curls, more like ringlets in some places, but no matter what i do, there's always a sort of "layer" of frizz on top (does that make sense?) how can i get it nice and shiny without the frizzy overlay!?

Redken 'Fresh curls' spray on while wet and then scrunch and dry naturally or with a hair dryer for a tighter curl

rantinghousewife · 01/10/2007 19:57

Gloss drops here

FrayedKnot · 01/10/2007 20:04

I use a curl relaxer on mine to avoid frizz. The body shop one, at the moment.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 01/10/2007 20:07

I use curl cream on it first (whatever is on offer) then serum on top of that, usually Frizz Eeze. Dry it naturally.

Saggar AKA Crystal Tips.

ruddynorah · 01/10/2007 20:13

i use cheapo hair gel from superdrug on soaking wet hair. i then twist my hair in one inch ish sections around my finger to define the curls. then scrunch it up a bit, and let it dry naturally. no fuzz no frizz, just nice curls. not crispy either like you'd imagine with gel.

nightowl · 01/10/2007 21:07

some great ideas here...another question. say i do my hair at night..i really dont have time to wash and style in the morning. does it last? or will i be a huge frizz bomb again first thing?

I treat my hair as below (my other post) then towel dry it and go to sleep with it damp ( probably bad for some reason) and it is really curly in the morning.

fishie · 01/10/2007 21:12

you could tie it up overnight. watch out for serums, some have silicon in which is terribly drying. i wish could find a good product too, have very fine hair which is easily weighed down by a lot of the curl products.

spottyshoes · 01/10/2007 21:12

Wella colour saver mousse on wet hair at night letting it dry naturally. Its like a leave in conditioner and works a treat on my frizz. On top of that, Gliss shine tonic spray in the morning when it's dry makes it really shiney too

shreddies · 01/10/2007 21:18

Fine haired curly people could do worse than try this

It's the only thing that works for me and I have tried EVERYTHING

kidsrus · 01/10/2007 21:19

find a salon which stocks matrix products.
they have one called sleek look (i love it)
comes in shampoo, conditioner, dressing cream and hairspray. the atmospheric moisture has no chance of getting through that lot.
blowdry as straight as you can or leave to dry naturally (less frizz).
here's a site which sells it!

fishie · 01/10/2007 21:23

it woudl def straighten it kidsrus, but triple silicone! my fragile locks would snap off.

kidsrus · 01/10/2007 21:26

the triple silicone is not in all the products.
there is also light or extreme in the cream.
light being better for yours.
you don't have to use all the products at once you could just use the cream on wet/dry hair.

fishie · 01/10/2007 21:37

have you tried the look lite one kidsrus? the prob i usually have is that stuff is too heavy or is water spray with some crap in that doesn't work. i am currently using daniel galvin water based serum but it isn't very cost effective (£5 a month). smells nicely of apricots though.

kidsrus · 01/10/2007 21:45

i've tried all but the iron smoother and the sealing serum on different types of hair and love all of them.

kidsrus · 01/10/2007 21:47

forgot to add you need less than a pea sized amount (lasts for ages)and isn't greasy at all (unless you use too much).

cheesypeas · 01/10/2007 21:56

I'm really liking Aveda's Be Curly at the moment, also used by my sisters - between us we've tried most products and all agree on this one. If I wash my hair in the evening, I apply the product then and in the morning splash wome water and crunch the hair in my hands to remove any frizz from the night. I also recommend the previous suggestion of curling ringlet sections of hair whilst damp to style the curls. Not the cheapest, but if you can get it from the US (or know anyone who can get it there) it's about a quarter of the UK price.

bilblio · 01/10/2007 22:32

The Aussie shampoo and conditioners have done wonders for my tangled mop. I use either the mega shampoo, or the luscious long stuff. The 3 minute miracle conditioner is great too.

What I like about them best is I've been using them for 2 years, my hair used to go bleurgh if I used the same product for more than a couple of months.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 02/10/2007 08:34

nightowl - re your morning question.I just damp mine down by combing it through with wet hands then leave it. It revives the products put on the night before.

fishie · 02/10/2007 09:00

yes i like aussie stuff a lot, but not for styling. have aveda v close to office, will have a look later. i used to use their anti humectant stuff, had forgotten about that.

Loulee · 02/10/2007 21:12

kerestase oleo relax

and kiehls creme with silk groom

both are fab
