I mostly use the Ordinary products, but think I need to change my routine a bit. I'm late 40's, alcohol-free, don't drink enough water, plenty of exercise. My face tends to be quite red, and gets very red if I'm hot, cold etc. I have some wrinkles starting below my eyes, and lines beginning above my upper lip. Dark circles under my eyes. I'm a real peach!

Current am:
Either Simple face wash or LRP scrub in the shower.
Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid & Buffet
Ordinary Moisturiizing Factors
LRP Anthelios 50+
Makeup

Current pm:
Body Shop camomile cleansing butter
LRP Toleriane cleanser
Either Ordinary Lactic acid or Ordinary granactive retinoid 2%
Ordinary moisturizing factors

Could anyone please give me any suggestions to reduce redness and slow down the approaching wrinkles?

From first glance ditch the am cleansers/scrubs and use the LRP toleriane instead
I'm not keen on the ordinary but I know that's controversial!
I really like the Superdrug pure hydration serum which has HA and ceramides and is really soothing for the morning before moisturiser
Really for results you might been to go prescription, skin and me is great or dermatica and both do a month trial offer which would replace your retinol

I agree with Queen, scrubs are brutal and facial skins so delicate.

I just use the ordinary weakest retinol at night & dermatica x 3 a week for pigmentation. I use an led face mask as many nights as I remember too on the red setting.

The dermatica tretonoin isn’t as irritating as the tret I bought abroad 🤨.

I started using Tropic 4 years ago after being diagnosed with cancer and love it.

I love the super greens for my face redness.
They do quite a few products for wrinkles, I mainly use face lift mask and the 2 eye products.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I'll start with @QueenCT's idea of ditching the face wash & scrub. I need to use the scrub sometimes, or my skin goes a bit claggy and my makeup looks odd, but I'll reduce it to once a fortnight. If that doesn't work I'll try changing serum.
Thanks all!

Swap the scrub for an acid exfoliation, you could try paulas choice BHA/AHA, or nip fab do some

KedsAndTubeSocks · 03/08/2020 08:38

Are the hyaluronic and lactic acids not exfoliating @QueenCT?
Thanks for all your help, I don't really understand this stuff.

HA is a hydrating product and the lactic acid is a gentle exfoliator. CeraVe moisturiser is great as it's full of ceramides and helps the skin barrier if you've irritated it by over use of scrubs/foaming cleansers.

suze28 · 03/08/2020 08:44

Also for redness you could use azaleic acid or Niacinamide serums. Azaleic acid is the active ingredient in creams for rosacea.

Go on to the ordinary website - explain to them your current routine and what problems you're still looking to tackle and they'll suggest appropriate comments. I did it a few weeks ago and was really helpful and so far am enjoying the products they recommended.

Ditch all scrubs and Simple products (they aren't)
Acid toners/serums do the exfoliating for you. (Obvs apart from HA which hydrates)
Start with lactic if you're sensitive or a weak glycolic. Paula's choice 2% bha is ideal for younger, oily, acne skin.
The LRP range for rosacea is called Roseliac I think, but Toleriane is lovely and gentle.
I wish Dermatica would send abroad...I'm looking for a similar set up but am in Italy

@QueenCT you're a genius! Such a small change, but such a massive difference. I'm just back from a run and I don't look like I'm about to explode - I just look a bit hot and sweaty, like a normal person. Thanks.

Yay! I'm glad it helped. I keep my routine mega simple now

If it helps

Am
Boots botanics cream cleanser
Superdrug simply pure serum or a vitamin c
Moisturiser (still trialling stuff!)
SPF

Pm
Eye makeup remover
A balm or lotion cleanser (ordinary squalane usually)
Skin and me retinol or murad revitalixir
Moisturiser

Some evenings I skip the retinol and use Paulas choice BHA as an exfoliator. If my skin gets red/irritated I drop the BHA and retinol and use the simply pure serum twice a day

Lacey2019 · 04/08/2020 19:52

@QueenCT I need to invest in retinol!
