Dd leg hair

Early teen dd wants to remove hair on legs. I would rather she didn't feel she had to do this but she is self conscious about it. I dont want her to use a razor as I remember cutting myself to shreds. Cream is a bit much on legs i always think. What alternatives are there? Are ladyshave type things any good?

I dunno, but my mum was weird about it and it was horrible to be honest. I just wanted it gone and not being allowed to, or made to use weird products to do it was awful. I was made to use silky mits, a kind of sandpaper! I was incredibly sporty too, so always had my legs out.

What about taking her to a salon for a professional job? But to be honest, I'd just buy a great razor and teach her.

mdh2020 · 01/08/2020 08:47

My mum stood me on a stool and shaved my legs when I was 11 or 12. My 15 year old grand daughter is shaving her legs. There are razors for women. Perhaps you could help her do the awkward bits?

Readytogogogo · 01/08/2020 08:49

Razors for women are much better these days - it will take little practice for help to get it right. Much easier than other methods.

justanotherneighinparadise · 01/08/2020 08:50

What would she like to do? I can remember my sister being really weird about me removing leg hair whereas my mother just let me get in with it. I used a razor and still do. No big deal.

Besom · 01/08/2020 08:50

You might be right. I suppose razors these days are much better.. I was just stealing my dads bics.

Ditto what @DonLewis has said. My mum wouldn’t let me shave my legs and I was teased about it. She went on and on about how it was the worst thing to do, despite my legs being hairier than most boys. I started shaving at 14 and was waxing by 16, and had the whole lot lazered at 28.my DD is 8 and wants to shave......I’ve told her she can when she is 9. As soon as she’s old enough I’ll be taking her to get lazered.

Besom · 01/08/2020 08:53

I think most salons have minimum age. But yes thank you - decent razor it is. I think she will go along with whatever I suggest to her.

Wilkinson Sword intuition razors are pretty good - the razor is built in to a little bar of soap making it hard to cut yourself and don't need to worry about a separate shaving foam. I started using these as a teen and have rarely strayed since!

DrWAnker · 01/08/2020 08:54

DD is just 13 and uses the Veet wax strips on her legs and has recently asked if she can use them underarm.
I do help her as she finds it fiddly but it lasts longer than shaving.

2coffeesinbed · 01/08/2020 08:54

My mum was weird about me shaving my legs too. Eventually she agreed on cream. It stank, was messy and stung!

I just started borrowing other people’s razors after that. Blush

Just buy a good razor and teach her how to shave safely. I rarely cut myself shaving - even as a teen! Just because you weren’t careful doesn’t mean you’re daughter won’t be careful Smile

@DonLewis My mum made me try those mitts too! Ughh

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 01/08/2020 08:54

My Dd9 has really dark hair and it's bothering her we ordered one of the hair removal mitts from Amazon. Did an amazing job and I'm not worried she can hurt herself.

Besom · 01/08/2020 08:56

Yellow how much does lazering cost out of interest?

Makegoodchoices · 01/08/2020 08:57

My mum was weird about this too. I think teach her how and it’s fine. I was getting bullied about armpit hair and she just kept saying ‘if you do it’ll grow back thicker’ as if not shaving would make it magically vanish.

fairydustandpixies · 01/08/2020 08:57

I have a ladyshave thing and it's great. Very gentle, not possible to cut yourself and exfoliates at the same time.

2coffeesinbed · 01/08/2020 08:58

@Lemoncurtain I’m sure I used to use that razor too. Many years ago. And the soap smelled like melons! I might get a new one for old times sake as they were amazing (doesn’t matter what scent it is now though)

Grin I think I’m easily pleased!

KatherineParr4 · 01/08/2020 09:01

I started shaving my leg and underarm hair at 14. I was getting teased at school about it. My mother had no interest. Ladies razors are much better now. She can start having it waxed when she's old enough to pay for it!

michelle1504 · 01/08/2020 09:23

@Yellow1793 I've been thinking about getting lasering done. How many sessions did it take? And does it actually keep all the hair away forever or will you need to get a top up session every so often?

GoshHashana · 01/08/2020 09:52

Just let her shave. My mum used to take me to have them waxed at a salon and it was mortifying/painful. I won't be putting my DD through that. If I can't successfully indoctrinate her in my hairy radfem ways, she can do what she likes with her body hair.

dementedpixie · 01/08/2020 09:57

Dd (and i) use the venus razors with olay heads as they have wee soap bars attached too

DonLewis · 01/08/2020 10:13

@2coffeesinbed what was with those? So strange! I wonder if you can still buy them?

2coffeesinbed · 01/08/2020 10:18

@DonLewis

A PP said “My Dd9 has really dark hair and it's bothering her we ordered one of the hair removal mitts from Amazon. Did an amazing job and I'm not worried she can hurt herself”

So I guess they’re the same! Blush

Yellow1793 · 01/08/2020 10:21

@Besom & @michelle1504 I had it done 15 years ago and it cost £3k for full legs, bikini bottom (yes I had a hairy arse), and arm pits. It was very expensive back then. It was 6 sessions in total each last about 90 minutes. I’ve had one top up for my armpits, which didn’t really work and I had my knees redone at the same time (which did work). I still shave my armpits every other day but I will usually shave my legs once before we go on holiday (ie spending prolonged amounts of time in swimwear), but I don’t reshave during the holiday and I absolutely never shave for day to day life. Sitting in shorts now, had a knee length dress on yesterday at work, went for a swim in the evening. Honestly can’t remember last time I shaved. And I looked like a gorilla before. Lazer was a life changer for me.

FranklyDearIDontRiverdance · 01/08/2020 10:26

My DD is 12.5 and has just started shaving her legs. She is fair but it was plentiful and she was self conscious. What’s the issue with letting them do it? I don’t get the hate for this.

She’s also started shaving under her arms, which were darker. Again, who am I to say she can’t? It’s her body and I remember being acutely aware of everything at her age and I wouldn’t want to impose an arbitrary minimum age (or my feminist ideals) on her at the expense of her comfort.

Commentutappelles · 01/08/2020 10:27

Dd is 14 and refuses to do hers, her leg hair is like that of a man. I think it looks bloody awful, but her body, her choice, so I have said nothing (mostly).
I think, as with many women, let her try different types of removal until she finds the one that suits her skin and hair type best.

Besom · 01/08/2020 10:42

I've not said she can't Confused
