Decent el cheapo conditioner?

This baby was unplanned so we are in a dire financial situation and I've no idea how to pay the mortgage. But more importantly I am no longer able to afford my usual ridiculously extravagant hair products.

I have found that Herbal Essences conditioners are really easy to rinse out and detangle brilliantly but if I could get similar results with something stripey out of Tesco I'd be delighted.

I realise that because everyone who posts on MN is middle class it's unlikely that anyone will have first hand experience of 'value' products but I thought maybe some of you might have overheard common people discussing the subject outside the school gates or something.

Go to Poundland, and see what they have with foreign writing on.

bluejelly · 01/10/2007 16:12

I wouldn't go own brand if I can help it but often the supermarkets own brand stuff is fine.

Cut price toileries shops (Semichem, Savers, even poundshops have good brands) are great for stuff like this and look out for 2for 1s.

Skribble · 01/10/2007 16:15

I meant I wouldn't go value but would do own brand.

PestoPumpkinMonster · 01/10/2007 16:17

If you've got Costco near you, you can get a gallon of Tresemme (3.78litres) for £5.79. It lasts me a year

ChubbyScotsBurd · 01/10/2007 16:20

Oh good lord, too many options!

I shall go compare prices ... fabulous, thank you people!

My SIL is a hairdresser and swears by Tesco value conditioner, she says that because it doesn't claim to "do" anything, there's less chemicals in it, and that it does our ahir good now and again to use cheaper, shop brand products on it. And she has lovely catherine -Zeta-Jones type locks

pantene is good

totaleclipse · 01/10/2007 16:27

Pantene is the best, but if you want even cheaper, Alberto Balsom (sp) is not too bad.

saltire · 01/10/2007 16:27

Her hair is the only thing that's nice about SIL though

and I agree about the tesco infusions, although am on a self-imposed tesco ban at the minute, using Asda instead

indignatio · 01/10/2007 16:27

I would second tesco's value conditioner - 29p for 500ml - usually I am a frizz ease kind of girl

Psst - only bought the value stuff as I wanted to use loads with essential oils to get rid of potential nits. CSB if your lo is brand new you wont have to worry about such things for a good few years.

try it - what have you got to lose - only 29p

Spend the difference on a lovely refillable bottle and no-one will know !!

mine doesn't say anything other than "condtioner" on it. If it helps, I have hair which has seen a number of artifical enhancements to turn back the passage of time.
