Hair people advice - what did I do wrong?

I usually get a full head of highlights every couple of months. I generally wear my hair up and was moaning to my friend about how it takes such a long time to get a full head and it’s expensive and I only need to get it done so regularly as my roots show more when my hair is tied up. Friend used to work in a hairdressers and said I should just ask for a half head but with a few at the sides and back. Then I could get away with leaving it longer between appointments and it would take less time and be cheaper.

I booked to have this done as soon as hairdressers reopened, mentioned what I wanted on the phone and had appointment today. I reiterated that I’d like a few at the sides and back when I got there and hairdresser got really stroppy with me and told me she could only do that if I was having a full head. I wasn’t booked for a full head and there wasn’t time to amend my booking. I said that I’d mentioned it when I booked, she said ‘that sounds very unlikely’ and went off to check with her manager. I said I’d obviously be happy for them to do fewer highlights on the top of my head and just do them at the sides/ back instead and that I didn’t want any extra foils at all, just in slightly different places.

Anyway, she did it in the end but was absolutely furious. It was excruciating sitting there for hours with someone clearly really cross with me. I’ve been going to the same hairdressers for years and now I can’t bear to go back.

Did I commit some huge hairdresser faux pas? I can’t understand why it was an issue. If she’s said it takes longer or makes it more difficult or something I’d have understood but from my pov I wasn’t asking for anything extra. She just kept saying that I should have booked for a full head of that’s what I wanted - but I didn’t want a full head!

What did I do wrong?!

I understood a t section to be fewer foils than a half head, not more. Just Around the face and along where you part your hair. Check their pricing menu as this should give you a clue.
That said, I’ve had all three (full/Half/T) and they’ve always done Around the front to frame the face so you wouldn’t notice it too much if you pull your hair back.
Personally, I’d be iffy about the “that sounds very unlikely” comment. There are better ways to say that perhaps you misunderstood or even that you were misunderstood. That would be enough to make me change hairdressers.

I alternate between full head and half head. I hate the highlights job, can’t bear the tedium if it. When I get a half head, my hairdresser insists on doing a few around the sides and back.

How uncomfortable for you! It sounds like your hairdresser was way out of order, esp as she knows you so well. Maybe send an email to say you won’t be returning and the reason why?

She's basically called you a liar. I think that warrants a complaint to the salon, before you even get into the unprofessional way she conducted herself during the appointment.
Hairdressers are very much in demand at the moment, but one thing lockdown has shown us, is that very few things are actually essential - if the current situation gets worse economically, people won't be rushing to the salon and businesses which treat customers poorly will not survive. If people are choosing where the spend money, it will be in places that make us feel good. This place has just thrown away a regular payment.

Complain and then go elsewhere. No excuse for rudeness.
Really salons can't afford to lose customers .

Sakura7 · 01/08/2020 12:45

I think you should complain by email, or leave a review somewhere. They were very rude to you and they should know that they've lost a customer because of it.

Terrible attitude from your hairdresser. It was very unprofessional of them.
Its probably time to find a new hairdresser. Ask your friends for recommendations.

BigBirdsbird · 02/08/2020 07:17

This sucks. How incredibly unprofessional of them.
Leave a review online if you can't bring yourself to do so in person. I'm guessing you spent a load of money to feel shit for a couple of hours.
Bad review and then move on.
