Which high street shop do I go to for a suit for son (16)

Dress code in Sixth form is a dark suit with shirt and tie. Ds would like to look as cool as is possible whilst complying with school uniform requirements. Where is good for suits in his age group (16, wears adult male 'medium')? Thanks

I used to use Next. Not sure of the sizing, nowadays.

My DS has just left sixth form (well left in March!) He had 2 suits - one was Next the other Debenhams- both reasonably priced and apparently stylish enough for school! He also takes a medium- got slim fit for both- and shorter legged trousers.

Zara, New Look Men, Top Man and Burton?

HunkyPunk · 29/07/2020 22:00

M&S have a very good range of suits online in every possible style including slim and skinny fit. They're discounted at the moment, too. My 15 yr old happily chose 2 suits (machine washable) for 6th form, and he's quite fussy about what he wears!

Thanks all

Next- all the 6th formers at my DS school wear their skinny suits and look cool.

Allmyeye · 29/07/2020 23:34

Next

ShaunaTheSheep · 29/07/2020 23:37

Another vote for Next for multiple sizes and lengths, cool lining fabrics, and machine washable.

Slaters, the salesperson took one look at DS and found him exactly the right size, colour and style in an instant. Very impressed.

SingleHandSue · 30/07/2020 01:06

Matalan are surprisingly good for suits at a good price

DramaAlpaca · 30/07/2020 01:08

Another vote for Next.

Cheers all

How many suit trousers would you suggest given that they are dry clean only?

My ds is a teacher and his suits come from Next .

fairydustandpixies · 30/07/2020 14:55

Matalan!

Can you try clothes on in the shops during these Covid times? I might as well order online if not

Buy the washable ones, and just buy two complete suits - one on, one in the wash. They get minging especially if using public transport.

Order several sizes and styles into store, take home to try on then return what he doesn’t need. They are pretty true to size.
veryvery · 30/07/2020 18:28

Matalan do washable skinny suits. Pretty affordable. Got my DS one with 3 pairs of trousers. He's pretty pleased with it.Smile

veryvery · 30/07/2020 18:29

Oh and you can order online which makes it all easy.

clary · 30/07/2020 22:57

Ds2 got a suit from M&S last year which he approved of and I like it too. Not expensive and washable, yay!

He's shortish (about 5ft 9) and muscular - not fat at all but deffo not skinny, he's solid. They had all sorts of fits and styles.

The only really difficult shape to fit is tall and v skinny (ds1, 6ft 5 and 30in waist. Thank goodness he went to college post 16!)

We tried them on in the car, in the carpark, then returned what we didn't want straight away! Wink
