Help me glow up for my wedding

outwiththeoldforgood · 29/07/2020 14:39

I'm getting married in 5 weeks time and I'm looking to do anything and everything to give myself a glow up between now and then (preferably at home) to help me look my best on my wedding day.

So far I have:

  • Worked hard on my body
  • Bought and used box dye on my hair for fresh colour
  • Bought an eyebrow tint
  • Started using teeth whitening strips

What else would you do if you were giving yourself a glow up for your wedding?

Save it for my solicitor. Sorry.

Lottapianos · 29/07/2020 14:47

I think that what you put in your body is at least as important as what you use on your skin. I would:

Increase your daily water intake if less than 2 litres per day
Cut out all processed sugar, including alcohol
Cut back on caffeine
Increase your fruit and veg intake to 8-10 portions a day
Get as much sleep as you need
Dont know what your exercise regime is, but maybe try to include more fresh air?

Enjoy the run up to your wedding!

bigcatlittlecatcardboardbox · 29/07/2020 14:48

Congrats!

Make sure your skincare is in top form (if not already!)

Double cleanse
Toner
Serum
Moisturiser
SPF

Retinol at night if you need it, twice weekly scrub, twice weekly clay mask. With five weeks to go you'll see the benefits just in time.

Cuticle oil from now!

And drink ALL of the water. Literally all of it.

Elouera · 29/07/2020 14:53

Spray tan now- to check the colour, how long it lasts and choose the optimal time for one prior to wedding. Then another the week of the wedding.

Fluffycloudland77 · 29/07/2020 14:53

What Lotta said, general health is really important.

@OhioOhioOhio

What a pointless and bitter comment. Hate it when people post stuff like this to piss on the OPs chips in nice threads like these, there's no need.

OhioOhioOhio · 29/07/2020 15:24

True though.

outwiththeoldforgood · 29/07/2020 15:35

Thanks all, great advice on here. I agree with general health comments, That's something I've been focusing on too and glad I have. In terms of spray tan, could I swap that for just general tanning mousse I can do at home? I don't have Cuticle oil but I've been using coconut oil on both my cuticles and nails for the past week - should I swap this for an actual cuticle oil or is this OK?

@OhioOhioOhio no one knows what's going to happen in the future but for now I will not stop looking forward to my first and hopefully only wedding and try and look my best for it too. Thanks for your nasty comment though, note taken.

If you're wanting to stay home then I'd get some nice bath stuff in, doesn't have to be expensive, and give yourself a few pamper sessions before the big day. Bath, exfoliate, shave, moisturise and relax!

If you're up for going to a beauty salon, I'd recommend a spray tan, manicure, pedicure and eyebrow thread (as long as it's someone you trust with your eyebrows!).

Will you be getting your make up done or doing your own? If you're doing your own make sure you're confident with what you'll be doing on the day. Maybe try some natural looking false eyelashes, I'd never worn them before but wore some self adhesive ones for my friends wedding and was surprised how natural they looked.

Also make sure you get plenty of sleep the week before the wedding, maybe some nytol if you're struggling to sleep.

Enjoy your day OP!

Sorry op. I'm not in the best frame of mind. My xh had a personality transplant not long after our wedding. I used to be the ultimate dreamer in terms of happy endings. Having been screwed over in every sense possible I warn you kindly that no matter how much you glow, a wedding is a hard and cold signing of a contract which binds you financially. I do hope it works out for you and sorry to be so brutal but the lessons I have had to learn about the legal system are cruel and debilitating. Sincerely. All the best.

Just remembered that there was a thread about "princessing" before Prince William and Kate's wedding way back in 2011, might be some more inspiration on there for you OP:

In case anyone thinks I'm a saint with my health advice, I'm not! But if I wanted to be my glowiest self in 5 weeks, I would follow my own advice to the letter Grin

Ohio, that sounds extremely tough and I'm sorry, but there is a time and a place

user1471523870 · 29/07/2020 16:22

What works for me:

  • plenty of water to smooth my fine lines
  • exercise in fresh air for a bit of a glow/healthy look
  • no sugar or processed food, or at least limit it in favor of more fruit/veg/lean meat/fish/nuts
  • lots of sleep
  • a careful beauty routine. For me the evening routine is very important: toner and vitamin c serum are my must.
  • cellulite serum works wonders on my legs and makes them super soft and smooth
ChequerBoard · 29/07/2020 16:26

I would get some really luxurious body products so your skin feels great.

Laura Mercier honey bath with the matching body scrub and body cream will make your skin amazingly silky soft and velvety.

REN and Elemis products are also good, especially the Elemis frangipani body polish.

Start now, and not only will you feel nice on the big day, you will be honeymoon ready too!

Fluffycloudland77 · 29/07/2020 16:36

@OhioOhioOhio. I’m the only one who read that and snorted by the looks of it and we’re happy.

I was told to avoid yoga by the bridal shop, they’d had a client who’d expanded her rib cage between original alteration fitting & the final fitting. I got the impression it was a situation they didn’t want to repeat.

Fluffycloudland77 · 29/07/2020 16:38

Ooh just thought, dermalogicas multi vit masque, gives me rich person skin the next day.

Wolfgirrl · 29/07/2020 17:05

Invest in a really really good deodorant for the big day. Have you got proper shapewear?

Drink lots of water so you have nice dewy skin.

You can buy at-home wax kits as well

JMAngel1 · 29/07/2020 17:36

@user1471523870
Which cellulite serum do you use please?

SunshineChatter · 29/07/2020 18:18

Good advice above. ALso, do things that make you happy - a good dose of happy hormones will definitely make you glow. Treat yourself (but not with 'bad' stuff), pamper yourself, watch feel-good movies, see your favourite people... When you can't stop smiling, you'll be half way there.

TheBlueStocking · 29/07/2020 18:22

Drink heaps of water and avoid alcohol. It will make you look like a new person.

Mumdiva99 · 29/07/2020 18:22

I don't know what you plan to do on the day but I really enjoyed heading to the YSL counter for a make over and to buy a few products for my wedding day. (I was doing my own make up).

Mumdiva99 · 29/07/2020 18:23

Sorry meant to add have a fabulous day.

OhioOhioOhio · 29/07/2020 18:30

Thank you Fluffy

outwiththeoldforgood · 29/07/2020 18:35

Such great advice, I already know I will be keeping these tips with me even after the big day. Thank you to every who said congratulations, etc.! Yes, I will be doing my own make up. I've already started practising but looks like i might have to go out and buy a foundation in my new shade as I will be tanning. Does anyone have any recommendations for a nice dewy/glowy foundation?

@OhioOhioOhio I'm sorry to hear that x
