Moissanite jewellery experiences?

I’ve recently heard about these synthetic Gem stones that are nearly as hard as a traditional diamond but less expensive and with even more sparkle and fire than a good diamond.

I love diamonds and have been looking for a new engagement ring ever since my original one broke but my tastes exceed my budget by quite a bit. If it was possible to get something that looked just as beautiful but cost less I would be very interested.

I’ve tried other diamond substitutes like CZ and diamonique but they pale when close to the real thing. Has anyone had experience of moissanite, either professionally or personally? I would be grateful for any opinions and recommendations.

A girl at work had a massive moissanite engagement ring which she initially told everyone was diamond. After a few weeks of people saying, ‘bloody hell, that’s just massive, aren’t you terrified of losing it’ comments she said it was moissanite. Maybe it was the size of it, but it looked like she’d got it out of a cracker.

Get whatever you want-If you love it, that’s all that matters. It’s just a bit odd to tell people it’s diamond when it’s not.

They're amazing...my replacement engagement ring is one.(lost the stone in my original). As long as not too big to be believed its real then go for it!

I'm a part time jeweller, more as a hobby than anything else but I sell a bit too. I think moissanite is a great option, should hold up just as well as diamond (unlike cz etc which I would never recommend on jewellery which is meant for full time wear). Looks great, good price, hard-wearing etc. Visually to most people they are indistinguishable so the main reason to get a diamond over moissanite is just so you can say it's a diamond. Under a loupe a diamond's facets will appear sharper/clearer than moissanite due to the lack of double refractivity but nobody is going to be looking at your hand through a loupe.

In the large carat sizes moissanite looks less like diamond for a combo of factors - tends to be warmer in tone, has more colour in the fire and would be unimaginably expensive as per previous post!

I really like moissanite - am wearing one in an old European cut at the moment on my right hand. I wouldn't personally buy diamonds unless i was looking for a particular cut stone that I couldn't find in moissanite.

Here's a comparison from top of finger down: round brilliant cut moissanite, round brilliant cut diamond, unknown grade but quite white, round old European cut moissanite, marquise cut diamond colour H VVS1.

Very helpful. Thank you @ferretface.

I’m not bothered about pretending it’s a diamond when it’s not. I just like sparkly things and the more sparkle I can get for my money the happier I’ll be!

Moissanite is very popular in america. If you have a look at the forums on a website called weddingbee there is tons of information there
