Bralettes for larger boobs - are they worth it?

I'm so sick of bras! I used to wear bralettes when I was younger but I had really small boobs then. I remember them being so comfy though. I'd like to try them again but I don't know how supportive they would be for a 36DD. Does anyone have any recommendations on brands?

Nope. Two words: sweaty monoboob.

Are you absolutely sure that your size is 36DD? Where did you get measured?

The first step to a comfy bra is making sure you're wearing the right size so I advise you to check using Boob or Bust and ideally get fitted in person if you can, Bravissimo is good.

I am about a 32/34 GG and upwards (size has been fluctuating a lot due to pregnancy and breastfeeding!) and tried some bralettes but none of them were any good. My favourite bras are perfectly fitting underwired bras (bought at a fitting at bravissimo) but there's no point me telling you the brand/style because what fits you will depend on your size and shape. However, I do have some very comfy stretchy non-wired bras (due to the pregnancy and breastfeeding) which I would recommend: Sugar Candy (by Cake) which is sold at bravissimo and also slightly cheaper on various websites.

BloodSweatAndBeers · 28/07/2020 13:23

Thanks Emma. I've not been measured for a while and am probably bigger than that now (thanks lockdown). Perhaps I need to go to a shop and try different styles of bra on. I was hoping to avoid the high street for as long as possible!

I'm 34e/36dd and wear bralettes. Sloggi zero feel . They're so comfy I can't bear to wear anything else these days.

GatherlyGal · 28/07/2020 13:40

teta are these new Sloggi ones? I have a Zero feel and it is truly awful.

I'm same size as you and my boobs somehow work their way out underneath as the day goes on.

I've ordered 2 Chantelle ones from John Lewis but they have not arrived yet. I have high hopes. Although I feel like I try this every summer and always end up back in full-on underwires before long.

Everley · 28/07/2020 13:41

I’m a 34/36 D and wear bralettes, also love the Sloggi Zero Feel mentioned above. I wear a “normal” bra if a fancy outfit requires it but day to day I wear bralettes. SO comfy compared to a traditional bra. I must admit they don’t give as good a shape or support but I’ll take comfort over that any day.

XingMing · 28/07/2020 14:15

The Chantelle one is okay, but I only wear it for housework and lounging. The Sloggi one was dreadful. I prefer underwiring for most things and don't find them uncomfortable.

karmasic · 28/07/2020 17:46

I wear them for bed, definitely wouldn't be able to control my boobs during the day!

binkyblinky · 28/07/2020 17:48

38G - long for the day I wear a bralette!

shadowdiver · 28/07/2020 17:54

I have one I like from Bravissimo. Think it's called 'Jade'? It's the lacey one that comes in purple or orange. Super comfy and supportive enough, I think

pigletpie2177 · 28/07/2020 23:59

I'm about a 34GG and love the M&S DD+ range. Under a tenner per bra and actually look pretty as well as being comfortable.

In my experience, no. 32H

alexdgr8 · 30/07/2020 03:10

there was an item on soft bras on bbc radio 4, you and yours, wed 29/7.
mentioned bravissimo, online ordering, and self measuring.
people seemed happy.
you can listen again. was on about 12:40pm.

KatharinaRosalie · 30/07/2020 10:05

Zero feel gave me also zero support, was just sitting there doing absolutely 0.
Only soft bra that works for me is Molke, but that's more of a top than a bralette.

ForSaleChesterDraws · 30/07/2020 10:07

I bought Molke after people raved about them and I hated them. Unaboob and did uncomfortable to get on and off. I sent them back.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 30/07/2020 12:23

I am huge of nork and love the sainsburys Tu soft crop top type i have them in black, white, lemon and mint green, so comfy

MonsteraCheeseplant · 30/07/2020 12:26

I basically live in mine nowadays! But only as a pyjama bra or indoors only not seeing anyone today bra. I'm 30FF-G by the way.

ageingdisgracefully · 30/07/2020 12:39

Not a bralette but a soft bra from Peacocks. So comfy. I'm a 32f and get a 10. Thin straps too, for under tops.

I never wear anything else now.

lazylinguist · 30/07/2020 12:46

I bought some from Amazon (the brand name is Lemef. They are cheap, brilliant and supportive- I'm a 36E. I can't stand wearing my underwired bras now.

HildaWasALondoner · 30/07/2020 12:48

I'm a 34H and can only wear a bralette to bed (and even then one might pop out to the side) - but I have been known to wear one under a strappy summer dress or top. I got some large cropped sports bras from Matalan and took the pads out, they work (but are quite thick, more a top than a bra), and also found some brightly coloured ones on Amazon which just about enclose the bosoms. They are like thick denier tights material - soft and comfy, but zero support and a bit sweaty.

AbsentmindedWoman · 30/07/2020 13:34

34DD here and love Aerie bralettes.

I also have one from Primark, and though it's super comfortable and stops my breasts waving around too much it admittedly does not give them an attractive shape under clothes. Weirdly though I actually think it looks fine if I wear it by itself in a heated yoga studio.

Anyway I love bralettes, they are definitely a wardrobe staple.

FourPerDozen · 30/07/2020 13:41

Tutti Rouge! I swear they are amazing. Longline, so quite good support and really comfortable. I've even done a HIIT workout in one.

Some of them I've found the straps a bit too long and the support isn't great, but if you are good with a sewing machine, easy to fix. The ones with the thicker straps are best.

This is my go to (I actually have two of them and I'm tempting to buy a third as it's only £6 at the moment):

A workout in a bralette?! What size are you?

Titterofwit · 30/07/2020 17:46

Im amazed at how many advertising blurbs I have fallen for over years of buying breast coverings. I fall for it every time.
I have done the boob or bust method so have a good idea of my correct size and I know what suits my shape but Im blowed if anything has done the job Im expecting it to.
I am 38 E and despite many many purchases I have had to donate all of the bralets Ive ever bought as they arent up to the job for large ,soft breasts.
They may be fine if you have firm breasts and probably god posture too but I end up with one huge monoboob drooping around my waist. Not a good look.
Ive found Im better with a firm sports type bra if I take out the inserts. Its not too uncomfortable and at least my breasts stay where they should be .

FourPerDozen · 30/07/2020 18:50

@AnotherEmma

30F, so not massive but reasonable. But honestly, this bra is brilliant. Definitely suitable for weights if not HIIT for everyone.

I think the key is that regardless of how I bend, I don’t fall out. I do all the time with standard underwire bras.
