Help! Outfit for walking date?!

So I have a second date with a really lovely guy this week. We're going for a walk by the sea (it's quite rural but will be lots of people about!) and I don't know what to wear 😫We're going early evening, but the weather is looking good. It needs to be something practical (the terrain can be a little uneven in places) but I also want to look good!! We're going to the pub for a drink after as well. On our first date I wore skinny blue jeans, black vest top, long cardigan and gold sandals, so want to wear something a bit different but also not just leggings and trainers 😖 which, although is often my usual walking attire, doesn't feel groomed enough for a second date! Any ideas? I had thought of a dress but that could be interesting if it's windy! I think my main issue is footwear... possibly my Birkenstocks?! He is pretty rugged and outdoorsy so he'll probably be wearing something very casual.

If it's an actual walk eg the Devon coastal path, wear decent shoes with support. Then jeans a weather appropriate top and a jacket . If it's literally strolling on the beach Birkenstock's will be okay. It won't be boiling will it and if he's rugged and outdoorsy he may be irritated by yiu turning up all glam so I'd avoid that!

Agree with the post above - for an actual walk along footpaths, birkenstocks won't be appropriate, and he'll wonder why you chose them. Decent walking trainers would be fine, and there are plenty that look good.

I think trainers will be the way to go after all, maybe with my cropped black running leggings and a 'nice' running top! I think I'm just so used to going on "pub" or "dinner" dates when first meeting someone so I'm not used to being so casual. We're all learning all sorts of new ways during this lockdown! Grin

And my usual look is casual/outdoorsy (I have two dogs and do about three walks a day plus running!) so is more natural for me, to be honest!

Are you able to leave a nicer pair of shoes in the car to change into for the pub?

If not, do you have a pair of boots instead of walking trainers? You're better off wearing something suitable and looking a bit scruffy than daft in unsuitable footwear

Not running trousers and top!!!!!!!

Trainers and a casual dress, or trainers and jeans.

I walk a lot, there are all the gear walkers and just normal walkers with sensible shoes. Be the sensible shoes person not the all the gear no idea one.

I'm not saying you can't break a sweat walking, but you don't to wear need Lycra running outfit !

MrsGrindah · 27/07/2020 21:56

Honestly he won’t bat an eyelid if you turn up fir a walk in sensible walking gear. You can dress up on date three...

Sooverthemill · 28/07/2020 07:11

For trainers it depends on the terrain, I doNt walk much now but when I did loads of walking ordinary trainer were useless. You need the ones with really decent sole so they don't slip. If it's a short walk jeans and decent shoes, nice too under your fleece ( it's the UK) and it will t think you are a pollock for dressing sensibly. I agree nicer shoes in car but most country coastal pubs are fine with ( non muddy) boots. If muddy we leave at the door.

I'd wear what you'd wear for the same walk/conditions as you would any other time. If he's outdoorsy he will find you just as attractive in that attire!
