I’m 45 and my face is feeling drier even after moisturising. I’ve never spent much on moisturiser and just get one from supermarket shelf but I’m fed up of feeling they don’t work. I’d be happy to spend a bit more to get something that works and makes my skin feel nice.

Can anyone recommend one please that’s good for my age? Skin is normal but just feels drier.

Aldi Caviar day cream. £6.99 and the nicest I've ever used.

SpeckledyHen · 24/07/2020 14:21

Nivea Soft by day and Nivea Blue Tin by night .

If you have dry skin use something with hyaluronic acid in, I also have dry skin and tend to use products with either this ingredient or a specific product, such as the hydraluron serum.

I’m currently using The Ordinary products, daytime looks like, squalane cleanser -> buffet -> natural moisturiser factors moisturiser

For night time I add in a thicker more hydrating moisturiser, I use embryolisse for that

You could try adding a couple of drops of a nice oil to your regular moisturiser and see if that makes a difference (e.g. oils like rosehip, jojoba, wheatgerm, there are heaps of options at the health food or aromatherapy/massage sections of pharmacies) - it has helped a lot with my early 40s dryness, I don't wake up with a tight face any more

Drunk Elephant polypeptide protini moisteriser. Expensive but worth it. It changed the texture and appearance of my skin.

Bubble5123 · 24/07/2020 14:38

I second the Drunk Elephant polypeptide recommendation. I am on my second tub and it has really changed my skin. Makeup also sits beautifully over it. It is expensive but lasts for ages & I normally wait until it is on special offer before buying.

I struggled finding a moisturiser that would really hydrate my skin, but without making it greasy. I tried hylauronic acid which was better, but now I prefer The Inkey List polyglutamic acid - it's incredible! Really recommend.

Look at Victoria Health and their brand - Garden of Wisdom. I have heard great things about it

Have a look at Facetheory. Their products are fantastic, natural & organic. Use their ‘build your routine’ questionnaire to find out what’s best to use. If you buy two of each product it’s discounted and there’s usually 20-30% discounted on top of that. I won’t use other moisturisers now!

I started using Skinsense around 5 weeks ago and have found the entire range to be really effective. A serum before the moisturiser will help too lock in moisture.

DobbyLovesSocks · 25/07/2020 12:55

I suffer with terrible dry skin, colleague recommended superdrug vitamin e range and I am astounded by it. Very friendly on the purse and the products really work. So much so, I have pretty much bought the entire range (micellar water, serum, face cream, eye cream, exfoliating scrub bar, oat and milk scrub etc).

I used to use Nivea but found over time it felt 'gritty'

SplunkPostGres · 25/07/2020 12:58

There’s lots of great dermatologists on TikTok who have advice on regimes for different skincare types.

Main advice seems to be to use something with retinol for skin regeneration in the evening.

SicMundusCreatusEst · 25/07/2020 13:14

Anything with peptides, ceramides and HA. You don't need to spend a lot on moisturiser. Olay, L'Oréal, Garnier, whatever is on offer and for your skin type.
You probably need to up your game with serums.

nanbread · 25/07/2020 13:24

Superdrug B Restored.

Contains peptides, HA, niacinamide, squalane, amino acids etc and it's currently less than £6.

Aldi or Nivea soft.

MikeUniformMike · 25/07/2020 14:24

The Aldi and Lidl serums are good.

Popc0rn · 25/07/2020 17:57

For night cream:
M&S sleep cream

timetest · 25/07/2020 18:11

Kate Somerville Goat Milk. Pricey but worth it.

TheClitterati · 25/07/2020 18:25

Zoe Bee Aloe and Avocado is fab for dry maturing skin - if you can get any. She hand makes everything and keeps selling out.

Garnier moisture bomb works miracles❤️I get the night one but use it twice a day, makes skin look incredible!! Try vitamin C serums too.

Wowthisisreal · 25/07/2020 19:02

I really like my Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream (SPF 30)!

BadEyeBri · 25/07/2020 19:26

This works day and night

homemadecommunistrussia · 25/07/2020 20:05

Eucerin 5% urea here

JinglingHellsBells · 25/07/2020 20:14

Olay Regenerist 3 point. Amazon around £15 instead of £30. Swapped from Clinique @£40 a few years back and very impressed.
