Is Tropic an mlm? Am tempted to buy!

A friend recently became a Tropic ambassador and I dutifully joined her group not intending to take much interest. But I invited a couple of other peeps to join (am a supportive friend!) and received a free lip balm for my efforts. And it's gorgeous! And my friend's skin looks great and I'm actually now really tempted to treat myself to a couple of products.

Does anyone know if this is a genuine company? Really hoping it's not another mlm.

Yes it is. A good friend is an 'ambassador' and makes Lisa all out of it. The products are good but they are also way overpriced.

EachandEveryone · 25/07/2020 12:56

They do a really good abrasive foot soap but silly money

Mrsjayy · 25/07/2020 12:58

It is really expensive I gulped at the prices,

Hoppinggreen · 25/07/2020 12:59

It is but I have to say I like their stuff and so does my vegetarian Dd
The lady I buy from knows I won’t have a party or join her cult so she doesn’t ask

EasilyDelighted · 25/07/2020 13:01

Yes, MLM but nice products. I liked the skincare a lot when my friend did it but found the make-up very expensive for what it was. And it does exploit women as cheap labour. As for Mermaids, I'm out if that's the case.

EachandEveryone · 25/07/2020 13:03

How is it involved with mermaids?

LivingDeadGirlUK · 25/07/2020 13:04

All MLM products are overpriced because all the extra levels of commision have to be factored into the price. If you buy direct from the website the company makes more profit but by operating MLM as well they get custom firstly from the new sales rep sign up plus any stock they buy, and secondly fron the sales reps friends and family who are convinced to buy something they normaly wouldn't to support a friend/relative. Everything is a win for the company with no risk, unlike the sales reps who do everything at own risk with no employee protection.

Mrsjayy · 25/07/2020 13:07

How does it employ women as cheap labour and what about Mermaids?

Yester · 25/07/2020 13:09

god I have a couple of tropic sellers as friends on Facebook I have completely blocked them even though they only pick up a post every couple of months. I hate the fact that they view Facebook I said chance to sell off to supposed friends. Another friend has thankfully stopped and she won't talk about it at all. I think she's very embarrassed she got caught in the trap. I'm self-employed and run my own business but avoid usung my private Facebook to promote my business as people really hate it even though several of my Facebook friends are also my clients

illbestraightback · 25/07/2020 14:12

SebandAlice

I saw on their website they are giving 10% of their profits to Mermaids. No thanks.

Shock (at the comment, not the action)

EachandEveryone · 26/07/2020 12:01

Ive just turned down three invites from close family members. Its horrible saying why to them as it makes you sound superior and they cant exactly get childcare to go out to work they see it as pin money.

Ffsseriously · 26/07/2020 12:55

And all the comments about i have to explain to friends relatives why im not buying. Or i am buying to be supportive is excactly the problem, i used to work in m&s no one felt they had to shop there to support me or explain why they weren't. It is just wrong to make people feel uncomfortable. Sadly it seems the realisation that they will need to do this to make any money pushes normally nice people in to pushy unpleasant fools.

Came across this thread and wondered if people can point towards decent alternatives to their skin care range? Been using the cleanser, toner, moisturiser and I like them but probably can't afford longer term! Any similar cheaper products out there?

LilyLolo81 · 14/08/2020 16:20

Sukin is great, fantastic alternative at a fraction of the price!

EachandEveryone · 29/08/2020 19:20

Well my friend has just won an all inclusive holiday to the Caribbean so now they are the best company ever. I don’t want to burst her bubble and I dont know exactly why it’s so wrong like how do you put It into words. The products are good and people do buy them and are happy with them so why is it so bad?
