Following on from pist about wetsuits, im a size 20 and would like to get into water sports but cannot find a suitable wet suit, also is there such a thing as 2 halfs top and bottom half as think that would be easier or is there any type of clothes which would be suitable if unavle to get bigger wetsuit. Many thanks

They must exist - to be honest, sizing is a bit weird on wetsuits anyway. I am size 14 and find that I have to size up. I use a short-sleeve/short-leg wetsuit and find that it's fine at keeping me warm, although some people will say that anything less than a full-length suit is useless. The problem with two halves is that you will get cold round your torso, I think.

Try a men's suit, using your measurements? I also have a slightly thinner suit (2mm neoprene) that was sleeveless and found that the material had a bit more 'give'. I don't know how large that goes, but - let me just pop to my wardrobe - it is made by 'SEAC'.

Depending on what kind of watersports you want to do, I tend to just wear quick dry leggings and t-shirt for SUP/kayaking/sailing as I get to hot in a wetsuit (south coast of UK)

I definitely saw Decathlon selling top half and bottom half clothes in a wetsuit material, I don't know how good they are but might be worth a look ?

I'd start off by considering what you need the wetsuit for. For example diving in the UK in winter, a drysuit would be more appropriate (and there are plenty of manufacturers that will custom make you one).

Something mostly above water, like surfing, on a warm day in summer, a shorty would be fine. You could probably buy a larger man's one off the peg that would fit, as you don't need to worry about the legs and arms being too long.

Some people layer shorties with full length rash vest/leggings if they want sun protection or a bit of extra warmth. They're more like lycra leggings/tshirt and therefore a bit more forgiving on sizing than neoprene is and can be bought seperately. If you're naturally a warm person, they might be fine on their own.

Basically the thicker/longer suits will be warmer, but are more of a faff to get on and off and fit will need to be better as the material is less stretchy.

Have you looked at Two Bare Feet? Decent wetsuit and biggish on the sizing. A wetsuit should be snug though. I feel exhausted getting into mine! 😂

H&M have announced a new collaboration with Waves which has wetsuit tops and bottoms in

lockdownsunflowers · 22/07/2020 20:57

Look up twfshop Think goes up to 20
I also had a gul one but Now can only find up to 18

I tad some neoprene swim shorts but forget where they were from (?poss Amazon)

There is a market for at least size 20 & 22 wetsuits I don't know why more companies don't make them

Depends on the watersport youre looking to take up, but i love the aqualung womens range im a size 18 and it fits amazingly. I use it for scuba diving but would happily use it for other sports.

Two bare feet go up to a 5XL which fit my 6’ 20 stone+ friend.

I bought one in 3XL and it was an odd fit. Plenty of room for my giant arse, but hanging off my boobs and waist so let the water in and was useless. Also arms and legs suitable for a 7’ woman.

I swim in skins now even in 3 degree loch water!

I think a real problem with wetsuits for plus sizes is that they tend to be quite straight up and down - and if you’re an apple, pear or exaggerated hourglass then you’re going to have loose bits.

One of the women in my group wears a zip up waistcoat I think looks good and easy to deal with.

Thank u so much for the replies , thought i wouldnt b able to find anything! i wil look into them, ive always wanted to to surfing , and love kayaking, always said i will do surfing when im thinner and ive decided i need to quit with that attitude as i will be waiting my whole life, want to do all these things but just continuously waiting to do them , and also if im more active (have taken up running doing couch to 5k ) i will be more motivated to be healthier.

Another vote for 2 bare feet. I’m a size 22, tallish and squeeze into a 2XL Shorty (well pre lockdown I did!)
I would give them a call. Just looked on their website as they don’t seem to have many big sizes left in many styles. I imagine they have sold out with everyone stay- cationing. Best if you can try them on.
