Anyone regret going grey?

Has anyone grown out their natural hair colour? IE: A full head of grey/ white hair.
I've grown mine out. I'm fully what you'd call salt & pepper, mostly white in the front & sides.
However I'm getting bored of the colour & getting itchy feet about colouring again.

I know it's personal preference of how you feel comfy with your hair, but I'm interested to see if anyone went back to colouring your hair again.

I’m one very overdue cut away from being dye free. Taken a year and now 100% white at front & 80% at back from a dark brunette. I still feel a bit strange & will maybe experiment with lilac just to add a bit of something. No way will I get stuck in the every 2week root fight again tho but I think I feel what you feel.

CrypticQueen · 21/07/2020 18:37

Not regret as such. I bleach mine but thought I’d grow it out (it’s short) and see if I liked my natural colour. I didn’t. However, the texture was amazing, and natural was a lot cheaper and less time-consuming. After a few months, I went back to blonde.

CrypticQueen · 21/07/2020 18:40

Should add that my ‘natural’ was too little salt and too much pepper - still quite dark at the back and on top, and more white at the front and sides. Yours sounds a lot better, OP.

BradleyCooperwillbemine · 21/07/2020 20:29

I've mentioned on another thread recently, that I have been my natural colour for about 3 years - ashy light brown but quite white underneath.
I had it coloured last week, and although I don't really like the colour, I definitely prefer it to my natural colour. I look more vibrant, it brings the colour of my eyes out and it looks much thicker. I have nothing against white/grey hair - it can look stunning, but in the main, for most women, I don't think it does them many favours. However, I appreciate that eventually, it does get a bit to much hassle with the constant upkeep.

CatBatCat · 21/07/2020 20:34

Nope, don't regret it. I don't think I'd go back to the dye again, certainly not a semi or permenant one. I use a purple vegi dye which is very diluted with conditioner like 1:10 to make a purple toner rinse and sometimes leave it intentionally longer to get a violet or lavender hue but it soon fades in a few weeks and needs doing again. That's as much deposited colour as I'd want to use from now on.

scryingeyes · 21/07/2020 20:46

Nope, cut my hair really short when I stopped colouring it and it's white, and gray, darker at the back. I'm 47.
I love it and it's such a relief!

It’s is a blessed relief but I’d love to have a lilac tinge now & again when I need a pep up. CatBatCat your concoction sounds just the job where can I get some?
knowive are you thinking of hitting the dye bottle?

TimeWastingButFun · 21/07/2020 21:16

I have two inch roots from lockdown (usually blonde) and I was tempted to go natural grey, but it's so ageing. Definitely going to get my colour back!!

BlessYourCottonSocks · 21/07/2020 21:30

Nope. Love mine. I grew it out two or three years ago, had a short pixie cut and I love it. It's silver with a lot of white - very Judi Dench - and I really like it.

LaGoulueRevenue · 21/07/2020 21:34

Can I ask some really stupid questions? I'm not there yet but would like to embrace the grey when the time comes. Does the texture of the hair change? And if does it stay shiny if you've always had shiny hair?

BlessYourCottonSocks · 21/07/2020 21:43

Mine feels the same texture, and is actually lovely and soft - but that's probably because I have it cut regularly and don't use loads of dye on it anymore! It just feels in brilliant condition to be honest.

GoldenGumballs · 21/07/2020 21:50

Mine is in better condition & the silver shines but it feels softer & fluffier like candy floss! I can still straighten it to look sleek. I’ve definitely noticed it has thickened up around temple & I don’t have as much hair loss as with the dye. Part of me will always grieve my glossy dark locks but this feels more me than the dyed dark locks iykwim

LaGoulueRevenue · 21/07/2020 21:57

Thank you both!

SenorFrog · 21/07/2020 22:01

I went a year without dying it, I'm 53, salt and pepper at the front but still pretty dark at the back, I loved it at first as it was no hassle and I still had a lightish colour at the ends which still framed my face. I then got it cut and instantly hated it, I looked washed out, I was like a ghost. The visions of glossy white hair were just a pipe dream. I'm now back to dying it but it's a ball ache as if I go light my dark roots show, if I go dark my light roots show. I just hate my hair altogether but not sure what to do.

BurtsBeesKnees · 21/07/2020 22:03

No not regretted it, I'm 18 months in, and about 2/3 of the way through (I have long hair). It's in so much better condition and it's the first time ever I have thick hair. Can't wait until it's all natural

SarahBellam · 21/07/2020 22:13

I let mine grow out and it was a lot less grey then I thought - about 30%. I have thick long wavy hair and the texture is wonderful. It’s glossy and shiny and needs much less shampoo and conditioner than it used to. I may have a few blonde highlights put on for interest. But I have no intention of dying it again. I’m going for the full mermaid look.

CatBatCat · 22/07/2020 10:05

@GoldenGumballs Directions Violet with whatever your favourite white conditioner. There are many videos on Youtube (search diy purple toner) if you're unsure of the amounts. The more purple you use or the longer you leave it on your hair the stronger the purple colour will show on your hair.

BlessYourCottonSocks · 22/07/2020 12:18

Just to add - this is the best purple shampoo I've tried. It really takes any yellow tones out - and is reasonably priced whilst being a good brand.

CatBatCat Thankyou

Alsohuman · 22/07/2020 13:06

Mine’s been grey for 23 years now and I’ve never regretted it for a second. It’s in great condition and I can spend the money I save on shoes. Win/win.

FUBARFlossie · 22/07/2020 13:09

Best thing I ever did. Get lots of compliments, and no dyeing it every 2 weeks. Win win. Never again.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 22/07/2020 13:10

No, love mine!

MotherMorph · 22/07/2020 13:20

I'm early 40s with very dark brown hair that comes down to about my elbows. I've noticed maybe 10 white or grey hairs over the last few years which I just pluck out ....but they all seem really coarse and wiry. It fills me with dread that one day all my hair might be that texture!

Plumplumbadum · 23/07/2020 23:38

I used to be a golden blonde and I loved it. But the upkeep and expense was just silly. At 51 I decided to go natural. I had several bleach baths at the salon to remove the blonde. Two years later, I'm pretty happy with it. I use purple shampoo and conditioner every fortnight. You do need to change all your make up, because I found all my old colours just made me look washed out and old. Every so often I get a yearning to go back to the blonde, I'm not sure that the blonde love affair ever goes away Grin

Anyone regret going grey?
