How to get DIY smooth feet

I had lovely feet until kids sucked the life and moisture from me!
I have hard skin on my big toe and heel, what's the best way to get rid of it quickly?

Look up Margaret Dabbs. I got a three piece set - foot file, foot mousse (like a scrub) and finish with foot oil. I literally feeling like I've got new lighter feet after the scrub. Tried other bits and pieces but always come back to that.

Scholl electric foot file.

I use about once a week before bed, then put any moisturiser I've got on my feet, put some socks on and go to bed.

Popc0rn · 18/07/2020 22:03

It's so grossly satisfying to see how much skin flakes the file takes off Blush.

Margaret Dabbs did nothing for me. Flexitol is good but you have to really be religious with application.

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 19/07/2020 00:46

One thing I would try is lamasil - hard skin on heels can sometimes be a variant of athletes foot. I had no idea but used an anti fungal cream and had baby-soft heels within 2 weeks. Only found out because my elderly dad's podiatrist suggested it for him and o thought I'd try.

I’d start with an acid foot peel. I’ve used korean ones for years but a few brands doing them in the UK now. It’s a little plasti. Sick you put on, add the sachet of liquid and then sit for at least an hour with them on. Best to stick on a movie and wear them.

It will take a couple of weeks but all the dead skin will peel off your feet. Gross and satisfying!

Get a good foot file or pumice. The key is to keep it up regularly. So once a week soak your feet, give them a good file; I then use cuticle dissolver fro Sally Hanson for a real pedicure finish and push the cuticles back and trim them.

Finish by smothering them in an unctuous cream. I like flexitol. Put on before bed and sometimes cover with comfy socks.

I do a foot peel 2 or three times a year but the foot soaking and scrubbing routine I try to do once a week/ once a fortnight. And I put foot cream on every time I can remember to do it before bed.

Sorry for the typo ‘it’s a little plastic sock’ - not sick Confused

Schol foot file every day after your shower. Moisturise and socks immediately. Must do daily or every other day to keep on top of it.

Fluffycloudland77 · 19/07/2020 07:42

Doublebase gel. Doesn’t need rubbing in, soaks in fast, doesn't mark bedding & works quickly.

Never known a moisturiser like it.

StealthPolarBear · 19/07/2020 07:43

Newton's chiropody sponge

Thesuzle · 19/07/2020 07:45

Second Margaret dabs here, the foot file stick on sandpaper thingys last for absolutely ages,
If you work from home. Every time you go for a wee, sand your feet for a bit.

Myusernam · 19/07/2020 09:05

Thank you, I will give these a bash!

@Fluffycloudland77 in integrated in trying doublebase. Just to check, their website seems to have two products, is it the one for dry skin with a purple ish pink label?

I'm interested*

Another vote for both a foot peel and also Margaret Dabbs.

Use the foot peel (I like the Footner ones) and do not put any moisturiser on your feet. They will feel really dry and in about a week will start to peel.

Once they are in the fully peeling stage, do a warm foot bath and use the Margaret Dabbs Foot Mousse to fully exfoliate your feet. Take ages doing this, rubbing in the mousse with a rolling motion to remove as much of the dead skin as possible. Then wash off your feet and apply moisturiser.

Repeat the foot bath and foot mousse for the next few days if necessary until you have soft and perfect feet.

I did this at the start of lockdown and have never had such perfect feet - I'm 49 and usually have horrible rough heels.

Fluffycloudland77 · 19/07/2020 13:34

Yes the purple one. Like a lot of effective products it’s very boring.

Vodkacranberryplease · 19/07/2020 18:21

The colossal pedicure foot file - get the original. You use it on dry feet and you have to go really gently. I've used everything in this thread and none of it is a patch on this thing. About a tenner on eBay. I've never seen anything like it in my life!

The foot peel socks are great but there's a week of skin peeling off/looking awful and then only another couple of weeks before you need another exfoliation! Margaret dabbs is a good backup for when you just want a bit of skin off.

Also AHA for general peeling (don't forget sunblock!)

noodlezoodle · 19/07/2020 20:55

^ What Vodkacranberry said. A microplane footfile knocks the spots off all the others but it's so good that you do have to be cautious not to file off too much of your foot!
