Anyone know anything about antiques/interior design? Which table do you prefer...?

So not strictly ‘beauty’ but it is ‘style’ so decided to post in this section.

We have acquired a second dining room table and not sure which one to keep as like them both!

The first one is old Victorian pitch pine and a bit longer.

The second one is much heavier oak.

Not sure which I prefer, ideas?!

Oh - and an oak table top is far less likely to suffer dents and scratches from young diners who have a tendency to bang their cutlery...

Whatthebloodyell · 17/07/2020 21:44

I’m going to vote for table 2, though I preferred the other at first glance. I think the legs are in a better position on table 2 for getting in and out of the pew. They both look nice though, I can’t imagine a single person looking at them and thinking they look out of place because they are (shudder) kitchen tables.

Verite1 · 17/07/2020 22:14

I like the oak better. Just not a fan of pine.

Dooki · 17/07/2020 22:46

Evening crowd loving the oak, morning much preferred the pine - as long as it’s in a kitchen and not a dining room 😅

I massively prefer the first (pine) one. It's refined and classic and really looks like it fits the style of the room. The second one is chunky and kind of dated looking, imo.

FannyFernackerpan · 17/07/2020 23:30

Love them both, and whichever one you decide to get rid of please bung it my way.

I'd happily give either one of them house room.

DramaAlpaca · 18/07/2020 00:38

I like both but love the oak one.

MoltonSilver · 18/07/2020 05:05

I think the first one, unless you refinish the top, is going to be difficult to keep clean.

BasiliskStare · 18/07/2020 05:11

At the risk of being boring OP - as well as how it looks , how many people might you want to get round it at any time so general meals / inviting people over / Christmas. No one likes a massive table leg when they are meant to be relaxing. I do think a dining table needs to be v practical as well as looking nice. The second one looks like stops for all sorts of shin knocking to me - but both look great so I do not think you can go far wrong

WhatKatyDidNxt · 18/07/2020 10:11

I prefer the left one

patas · 18/07/2020 10:43

First one for me.
I prefer the look and easier to move to clean up around.

tenterden · 18/07/2020 10:55

I love them both

Pieceofpurplesky · 18/07/2020 12:33

Number 2

Musmerian · 18/07/2020 12:35

First one. The second one is much less elegant and bottom heavy.

Kenworthington · 18/07/2020 12:40

Love the first one. The legs are nicer imo
