I have about 4 of these (Essie Fiji, Rimmel, no7) and they look great in the bottle but go on so sheer. I keep seeing lovely nice/light pink nails on celebs. I want a solid colour. Any recommendations please?
I have been looking at the Essie colour (Polished and poised). Is that solid?

You have to put 3 coats on, in my experience. Mine are all sheer with the first coat, but look like the pictures with a few more coats, you just have to build it up.

Even Essie is sheer with just one coat. I would recommend the shade Ballet Slippers, it's beautiful

I find more than 2 coats never dries quickly. It usually creases or has a smudge in it when I wake in the morning. Thanks for the recommendation for ballet slippers. It's looks gorgeous. What top coat do you recommend?

I only have one Essie polish and it is the Fiji which I love but find it is very gloppy

Gloopy not gloppy!

Try Stop It I'm Blushing by OPI. I was looking for the same thing as you and this ticks all the boxes. It's really lovely.

I have Essie Ballet Slippers but much prefer Essie Sugar Daddy which is a sheer light pink but less white than Ballet Slippers.

blosstree · 17/07/2020 08:49

I generally just use No7 top coat!

Smudging can be an issue - you have to let each coat completely dry before the next one. I generally put the coats on hours apart to let them each fully dry. It can be hard to find the time for that though and I have ended up with just one coat on for a day or so before finding time for subsequent coats Grin

Use white as a base coat first then pink on top - perfectly opaque

Gel polish if you want instant dry and no smudging - SensatioNail Blushing Bride or Babydoll Pink are pretty shades

I prefer OPI Bubblebath to Essie Balletshoes.

Essie Ballet Slippers looks lovely in all the pics but is a devil to put on without smudging or streaks.
Essie Sugar Daddy in 3 coats is smashing- your nails look 'done' but not in your face. Small chips not noticeable until you get a chance to re-do.

Dior Nail Glow is similiar but €€€€ and no better than Sugar Daddy IMO.

Bottom coat of Ballet Slippers with 2 coats of Sugar Daddy is a denser colour, without the dreaded Ballet Slippers streaks.

Do 3 coats while you watch TV. Add a coat of SecheVite.
Allow to dry (10mins?).
Done for 5days, maybe a week if you dont type/garden lots.

OP gloppy is a word - my DD uses it. Grin

carrottopper · 19/07/2020 09:31

Ha!
I'm going to need a new top coat as that is gloopy too - worried I'll do 3 coats and then ruin with the top coat

Another vote for Ballet Slippers here, it's my go to as it's so pretty. It lasts as well.

Lndnmummy · 19/07/2020 11:38

You can also try “Beige leger” By YSL

Viletta · 19/07/2020 22:02

BarryM has nice pale pink shades. Essie should be fine too.. perhaps you got the one for French mani..

Love Essie.
Glittery but love 'Birthday Girl'.
