Repair/refund vintage ring

Hi,
I got engaged a few months ago and picked out a vintage engagement ring 2 weeks ago.
It needed resizing so had it resized. When we got home after picking it up I noticed one of the tiny diamonds on the side has a chip. You can see little bit of my finger through the gap between the chipped diamond and the setting.
I immediately spoke to the jeweller who said they hadn’t noticed anything, but upon closer inspection of the photos on their listing they can see the chipped diamond.
They’ve said I can have it replaced or leave it.
I’ve asked how much it will be to replace the diamond, just waiting for them to get back to me.
The diamond that needs replacing is a rose cut.

I’m wondering whether it’s worth replacing or should I just request a refund? I’m a little bit annoyed that they didn’t notice it was damaged. I presumed they looked at all the jewellery in serial before selling it on! It makes me wonder if they’ve told me the correct details about the rest of the ring.
To be honest if I’d known it was damaged wouldn’t have bought it!

If they replace it will it look exactly the same as the other little diamonds? I’m assuming so, but I’m just looking for advice...

Thanks

Well you seem to be a bit sad about it OP...because it's not perfect and that's affected your trust in them re. the rest of the ring.

If you love the design, I would take it to be appraised...then once you're sure it is all real diamonds and good gold, have the jeweler replace the stone.

They shouldn't be charging you anything to replace the diamond. You would reasonably expect jewellery from a jewellers to be fully cleaned and inspected before sale. They sold you a faulty ring that they should either fix for free or refund.
I think I read on here before that vintage rings can be prone to problems once things start getting altered such as stones replaced and size changes. So unless it's really unique I would be tempted to get a refund and find another similar ring elsewhere.

That's a good point from bees...once the setting's been disturbed I've also heard it weakens the whole thing.

Thanks for your advice!
I’ve rung them this morning and asked for a refund....
I don’t think I’d be happy even if the diamond was replaced. I think I’d always wonder if it really had been checked properly etc... the jeweller was very nice and said he completely understood. It just completely took the whole ‘shine’ off the ring.

So hunt is still on!
Thank you!

Good choice to go for the refund OP. For the replacement, you might want to consider Berganza in Hatton Garden if you want another vintage one

I’ll take a look thank you!
