I need a sulphate free shampoo which actually cleanses the hair

I have very curly (3b/c and on the dry side) hair and a lot of TLC (along with products) goes into my mane. I avoid silicones and try to avoid sulphates but I find I always ends up with product build up even with regular sulphate free shampoo use and I end up using a 'normal' shampoo every now and then to get the grease off but it is drying my hair.

I have tried the Palmer's shampoo and just finished one of the Maui moisture shampoos. Both didn't quite work.

Can someone recommend a shampoo which is sulphate free but gets rid of dirt/product build up?

cortex, it contains silicone as well in case you weren't aware.

Faith in Nature. I’ve got a sensitive scalp and this stuff is a game changer. My DD has curly hair and it’s brilliant for that as well.
Palmers Olive Oil leave in conditioner is fab and smells lovely.

Kind natured from boots, my scalp is so sensitive and this shampoo never causes any irritation xx

I’m a big fan of Windle and Moodies shampoos. Big bottle and only use 10p size blob every time so bottle lasts a good few months and leaves my hair clean and super shiny

Why are products building up on your hair if you're not using any products with silicone? Are there some hidden silicones somewhere in there? If you are avoiding all cones then your products should be water soluble and just wash away without the need for sulfates.
It sounds like you know your stuff but might be worth double checking everything you use just in case their formulas have changed or something?

I like the moogoo shampoo and conditioner. I think they are both sulphate and silicone free.
They are about £12 each but last for ages

I use Pureology. It's cheap, but not £5 cheap.

Function of Beauty.

You order online - fill out a little quiz about your hair type and what you want from the shampoo (ie nice curls, less frizz etc) and then pick a colour and scent.

It comes from America so takes a couple of weeks but it's really good. It's £30 for shampoo and conditioner but it lasts ages. I've had mine since May and I'm only halfway through both bottles - it should last four months or so.

I was sceptical but I love it. My hair is so much softer and shinier now! It's sulphate and silicone free.

at that price, I would expect it to last a couple of years, not 4 months Grin

green, no idea what it is but I use oils, rice water rinses, conditioner, masks, leave in stuff and it just doesn't get clean.

Kinky Curly Come Clean is the bees knees but I don't know if you can get it easily in U.K.?

vengeancer · 15/07/2020 06:20

vanilla I checked out their website and cannot find a list of ingredients anywhere. I think that is pretty shoddy for a company charging £39 for a shampoo/conditioner combi. How do you know what is inside and what not?

www.functionofbeauty.com/ingredients/

vengeancer · 15/07/2020 13:21

well, that is a list of stuff they don't use. I wanted to see the ingredients per product and not what they are leaving out. Wink

I think I will give the tresemme a go and take it from there.

It does say :) If you scroll and click on what you want the shampoo to do for your hair, it tells you the ingredients they use for those specific issues. Then when you do the "quiz" you can select what you want the shampoo to do.

Or, you can e-mail them/message on Facebook - I'm sure they'd be more than happy to respond and let you know before you place an order.

But yes, it is expensive so I totally get why you're hesitant - hope you find something that works for you!

Sorry If someone's already suggested this but I use Cantu products. I buy mine on amazon. Can recommend the shampoo, conditioner and curl creme.

SocksForceFive · 15/07/2020 14:13

Habe you tried the Curly Girl method OP? I have 3a hair and it's been a game changer for me. Good luck with whatever you try.

vengeancer · 15/07/2020 14:21

socks, I am doing the curly method but switched things up recently a bit but no heat, no silicones, no sulphates of possible. and a few other things thrown in.

Greenvalleysightseeker · 15/07/2020 15:39

Have you checked your products on the Curlscan app/ website? The curly girl method advise avoiding some other ingredients (aside from silicone and sls) often found in hair products. There might be something not washing out properly. It's worth checking before ordering loads of expensive new products.

I use this www.waitrose.com/ecom/products/beco-spring-meadow-shampoo-bar/812614-707138-707139 I've only used it a couple of times and my hair seems to really like it. I'm 2c to 3a.
