Feel boring and drab

Maybe it’s from being in lockdown so long but I’m bored of my current ‘style’ (I use the term loosely). I wfh and often walk a lot so I dress for comfort! I am tall and slim but I’m stuck i a jeans and T-shirt rut. I wear a smart jacket for work related stuff and switch trainers for flats. What can I do to add a bit of interest and it feel so drab? Where do you look for style inspiration and where do you shop?

Buy some nice summer dresses, wide leg trousers, a couple of smart constructed bags, accessories such as cheap but nice jewellery from Zara. I shop all over but like Comptoir des Cotonniers, Jigsaw, Me&Em (in sale), Anthropologie and so on.

It is sale time!

Get a good haircut and colour, mani, pedi and a nice natural makeup.

I follow Trinny Woodall on social media who is brilliant at tips on dressing, skincare and makeup.

I should practice what I preach 😂

If you don't want to change the style but brighten it up coloured jeans are around, wear brighter t-shirts and some funky jewellery.

Thanks goose

Check out Emma Hill on insta. Sounds very similar to your physique and style so it might give your current wardrobe a bit of a tweak. I was thinking you could swap out the jeans for some neutral coloured shorts, swap a T-shirt for a linen shirt?

PersonaNonGarter · 14/07/2020 07:37

If jeans and t-shirts suit how you live, then lean into that.

Get more exciting t-shirts, some cool accessories (eg bright coloured hairband/big earrings/necklace stack) and bother with you hair and make up.

I wouldn’t try to go all dresses and skirts as you won’t wear them. Buy some funkier versions of what seems right for how your day actually goes.

And there are a lot of cool trainers out there.

I agree with LesLavandes I follow Trinny and even if I don't like what she's telling me to wear, at least she makes me laugh!! I have more of a Susannah body shape.

I had been feeling really boring and drab and like I had totally lost my way. It's really hard sometimes to find that middle ground between dressing too young or too old. I know a lot of mumsnetters say the House of Fraser free stylist service is really good but I don't live anywhere near one and don't feel like travelling.

So, after reading about it on here, I took the plunge and ordered myself a Stitchfix box. I got 5 items which cost me about £137 once I took into account the fact you get the £10 stylist fee back if you keep one item, and I actually got 20% off because I loved all of the clothes so much I kept everything.

Here is my introductory referral link if anyone wants £15 off their Stitch Fix box ( I get £15 credit to my Stitchfix account too)

www.stitchfix.co.uk/invite/ffztmxfkwh?sod=w&som=c

You pay £10 stylist fee which is deducted if you keep at least one item. Then £15 off that item, plus 20% off everything if you keep all five items. You set your price limits when you sign up and get to give loads of info about what you want/don't want with regards to sleeves, necklines, whether you are busty or have a high waist, what kinds of items you want - handbags, jewelry also options you can have or not.

So for example I was able to say No Shoes as I have very wide feet. Or you can say no stripes/checks/green/whatever. It did take me about 20 minutes or more to go through the sign up as they ask a lot of questions about what you want and how adventurous you want to be, but in my case it was worth it as my stylist "got me" completely.

It's made me look at clothes a bit differently and I have signed up to get another box delivered in three months.

To be honest it's all been such shit recently it felt a bit like Christmas when my box turned up - I was ridiculously excited Grin Happy for anyone to use my link and get the £15 off. If you don't like it, you can just send it back for free.

Oh yes - t shirts and jeans. Over and over again.

I bore myself. There is a gigantic M&S near me and I am so lazy I have got into the habit of just shopping in there and it shows. I do have to do something about it.

A lot of Mumsnetters seem to like Hush so I might have a look at their website.

I went to a BBQ (socially distanced of course) at the weekend - wearing t shirt and jeans of course. My SIL was wearing this really lovely blue maxi dress and wafting around. I asked her where it was from and she said it was stitchfix own brand. I had never heard of it before tbh.

She said she signed up at the start of lockdown to cheer herself up and has been getting a new box of clothes every three weeks throughout lockdown!! Not every three months @lockdownalli - every three weeks Grin Bloody lucky cow!

I do have some nice dresses but I have a bit of chub rub due to lockdown weight gain and have some cycle shorts on order so I can wear the dresses more often when they arrive.

Liverpoolarefab · 14/07/2020 20:20

Thankyou lockdownali - I have used ur code for stitch fix - can't wait for my parcel to arrive !!!!

BringBiscuits · 14/07/2020 22:00

You are welcome @Liverpoolarefab I hope you enjoy your box of lovely things when it arrives as much as I enjoyed mine Smile

@happypoobum - every three weeks?! So so Envy

I also have to wear cycle shorts even though my legs aren't really that fat, they just brush against each other and get sore. I tried all the anti chafing gel thingies but cycle shorts are the way to go for me.

happypoobum · 16/07/2020 18:01

I know!!!!!

Apparently she got DB on board by getting him a couple of boxes too, although I think he always looks pretty well dressed to be honest.

So I have ordered myself a stitchfix box of goodies ahead of my holiday in Devon next month. Just the one mind! I used my SILS £15 off code. On the note you add I put "No jeans or T shirts"
