What hairstyler/brush for swishy hair ?

My hair has grown during lockdown and I've had it cut with longer layers .
It's now in between short and shoulder length .
I find it really difficult to blow dry and want it to look swishy like a salon blow dry.
Can anyone recommend a styleŕ?
I had a Babyliss big hair but often got it stuck in my hair Blush
I'm wondering if one of those heated paddle brushes would work ?
Product recommendations also welcome !

I should add it's not the style just my frozen shoulder making holding a hairdryer and brush tricky!

I had the Babyliss Big Hair and loved it, when it broke I replaced it with the Revlon One Step Hair dryer. Its brilliant, it doesn't spin like the Babyliss so it doesn't get caught in the hair. Styles my thick, shoulder length hair easily and quickly (and its nicely swishy too!)

Thanks ILove

I do need something that either spins or holds the hair as it brushes through.
I've got really wild hair that's neither curly nor straight Hmm
I hate it !

I have a couple of Kent natural bristle barrel brushes that are great to use. Hair never gets stuck in them.

nitgel · 14/07/2020 16:55

They don't spin tho Grin

Sorry perhaps I wasn't clear.
I çant hold a hairdryer for very long so I need to blast it semi dry and then use a heated brush.
It's the blow drying and hot styling brush I need.

The revlon one step is a good call , but I'd also like to suggest a straightening brush. I've got the dafni go brush and it gives a bouncy blow dry kind of look. I have similar length hair to you and use it often.

ForeverRedSkinhead · 14/07/2020 19:23

Also , op , my hair is wavy too. I like the 'just tamed' look that a brush gives.

Coffeepot72 · 14/07/2020 19:29

OP, I have hair like yours. I always come back to my Babyliss Big Hair because it grips the hair, creating tension, and you need tension (IMO) for smooth swishy hair

Oooh that sounds good!

I've tried all three of these;

Dafni- no good on thick hair. I used mine once or twice but I wasn't a fan.

Big Hair - hair gets stuck, takes too long, not powerful enough.

Revlon One Step: LIFE CHANGINGLY GOOD. I have lots of hair, it's not especially thick but it's quite wavy/frizzy. This smooths it, and the barrel gives enough tension as it's absolutely huge. Gorgeous salon look in 30 mins. Key is to section your hair and use it like a round brush minus the blow dryer.

MoltonSilver · 14/07/2020 20:42

I'm getting better results from Babyliss sheer volume than from the big hair. It doesn't really provide volume, more smoothness and swishiness. Its similar to the big hair but you use it on dry hair, not wet.

Duvetdweller · 14/07/2020 20:45

Agree with PP
REVLON ONE STEP CHANGED MY LIFE sorry for shouting but it’a amazing. I’ve got thick, medium length hair. It literally makes you look like you’ve just had a blow dry. And I used to have a blow dry twice a week so it’s saved me about £60 a week too

Coffeepot72 · 14/07/2020 20:52

Question for posters who use Revlon One Step: I realise this doesn’t rotate, so do you rotate it yourself whilst styling? And what’s the difference between the One Step and a ‘normal’ hot air styler?

goldpendant · 14/07/2020 21:04

No difference between the Revlon and a traditional hot bush except it's a LOT bigger and a lot more powerful. You can rough blow dry first but if you don't have especially thick hair it'll do the whole job for you.

I don't even need to rotate mine that much, just kind of twirl it slowly while holding it taught. Honestly it's very very very easy compared to the Babyliss big hair and I think gives a more salon blow dry look.

I too used to rely on professional blow dries weekly so this has saved me £££!

Which model one step are people using? There seem to be two - a round one and a paddle brush one.

The round one, it's £40 on Amazon which is a bargain!

The round brush one. I agree, life changing! I used to have unruly hair....
emma6776 · 14/07/2020 21:27

Brilliant thanks ladies

velvetteddy1 · 14/07/2020 21:34

I use a tresemme wand I've had it for years and it's great I'm sure it was only £15 from Argos and still going strong.

MrBennsshop · 14/07/2020 21:35

I've got a Babyliss Sheer Volume brush. It's brilliant. Makes hair very swishy, but you will need to dry roughly first. And it's got a rotating brush.

smileannie · 16/07/2020 09:52

The Revlon one step, for sure. Best styling tool ever. Very easy to use and quick. Always looks like a salon blo n go, achieves volume, style and shine in max 10 mins - I’ve got shoulder length medium thick hair. Can be very hot though.

I use the round one, it grips the hair well and you create tension by winding it round and pulling through slowly (if that makes sense!). I cant use a round brush and a hairdryer - my hair just looks like a birds nest! The Revlon is brilliant, takes me 20 minutes to get a smooth, swishy blow dry.
DanceWithYourBalloon · 16/07/2020 22:07

I swapped my Babyliss Big Hair for the Dyson Airwrap. All other hair contraptions are now obsolete to me now. Grin
