Are Fjallraven Kanken done?

Just that really! They have some nice ones in the sale and I'm wondering if they are still 'in' or if they are starting to look outdated. I'm not super concerned with trends but don't want to buy something easily identifiable as a recent but past trend, if that makes sense.

I would say they definitely strike me as a recent but past trend. I wouldn't judge someone if I saw them wearing one, though!

LittleSwede · 13/07/2020 15:29

I've had my first one for 26 years now, got it for my 15th birthday. Own loads of fjällräven stuff, 2 coats, mini kånken and a saddle bag. It's decent and made to last. Don't care if it's out it's way out as a trend Smile

HarrietM87 · 13/07/2020 15:32

I think they may be less trendy not but they’re still good bags imo. We used one for DS’s changing bag and it was perfect - the right size and could clip on the pram or be used as a backpack. Still looks perfect 2 years on and will be used for DC2.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 13/07/2020 15:33

Where have you seen them reduced? I'm after one.

NavyBerry · 13/07/2020 15:38

Mine didn't even last. Got terrible holes in every corner and the fabric stained as nothing else! Yellow colour. Got from Asos. Not recommended and yes, it is a past trend unless it's 20 years old.

veritymcpickle · 13/07/2020 15:41

I still love mine and plenty of people use them where I live. I spotted a really beautiful rucksack on the Tate website recently but I can't justify spending £90 on a new bag when I've got two perfectly useable Kankens Confused

MillicentMartha · 13/07/2020 15:56

I think of them as school kids’ bags.

BikeRunSki · 13/07/2020 16:00

DS (11) uses a Kanken for school that FiL bought in Denmark in 1983. DH used it fir school too!

DefinatelyAWeeGobshite · 13/07/2020 16:11

I use one for work, no idea if it’s on trend or not but it’s a good bag! I have it in burgundy

BullshitVivienne · 13/07/2020 16:12

You can get decent fakes on eBay which is why they're so prolific.

Swearwolf · 13/07/2020 17:31

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz on the Kanken website!

Ok, sounds like a bit of a mix of opinions. I use a classic Eastpak for work at the moment (I used to have a big handbag but it was a faff) and it's just a little small so getting my laptop in and out is a juggle. I travel for work and like a work bag that can get me through the airport! Just saw a nice burgundy laptop Kanken and thought it might be worth it!

My mum has been using hers since the 70’s so I’m guessing noGrin

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 13/07/2020 17:37

Hmmm....It seems a bit dodgy to me.

If I go to the Fjallraven website and search their Kankens, they are full price.

If I Google Kanken, I get taken to a website called www.55u.store which appears to be Fjallraven but the prices are a fifth of the ones on the actual Fjallraven site.

This must be a fake website/copy product surely?

NowIKnowWhataTVDinnerFeelsLike · 13/07/2020 17:43

I got my kids fakes from ebay for a tenner each. They look great and have lasted a year of hard school runs with no damage - much better than most school bags we have tried.

Swearwolf · 13/07/2020 17:44

Oh maybe they are dodgy then!

Urban outfitters had some in their sale earlier on it the week. Worth a look.

dontgobaconmyheart · 13/07/2020 18:02

I wouldn't say they're a trend anymore or a 'must have' as they seemed to be at the time. I think it's absolutely fine as a generic backpack or school or whatever but as a fashion item, not really, no. Nothing against them though. If I owned one I'd use it for travel or to shove things in for the beach or whatever but wouldn't wear in the day to day as a fashion statement.

LuxuryWoman2020 · 13/07/2020 18:18

That site is completely fake. Look at their about us page and delivery

gotothecooler · 13/07/2020 18:22

I see them similar to converse, vans and dr martens really. Been around a long time, popularity spikes but always acceptable to wear (for those who care)

GreyGardens88 · 13/07/2020 18:26

I'd be embarrassed to wear one tbh

WhatTheFeckIsGoingOn · 13/07/2020 18:41

Dd bought two from that site last year, one looks completely authentic (but probably isn't), the other is definitely fake I'd say, the fabric just doesn't seem quite right.
