Dry eyebrows?

For the past few months, I have noticed my eyebrows have dry skin. It started when I noticed little white flecks if I rubbed them. It looks like dry scalp. I tried moisturiser which didn't make any difference and am now using an intensive moisturiser, but so far it hasn't made any difference. Today I tried a hydrating facial mask (it was meant to take 15 minutes to soak in and mine tried instantly). I will continue using it but in the meantime is there anything that will definitely work? Its embarrassing to see white flecks of dry skin in them when I look in the mirror.

Have you tried exfoliating your eyebrow area?

Lockdownhairdontcare · 13/07/2020 00:50

Daily exfoliation. I have a small patch of psoriasis on my right eyebrow.

Alongcameacat · 13/07/2020 00:51

I haven't because I thought it would aggravate the area although I was going to make a very simple one today from olive oil and sugar to see if it would help. Or can you recommend any particular ones? I guess this is my next step?

I was afraid it might be psoriasis because I get that on my scalp. I've never found anything that has worked and I have tried SO many products in the past 25 years!

Why would it have moved to my eyebrows? The main reason I have noticed it is because it falls onto my glasses when I am looking down and reading/scrolling through my phone. I suddenly realised I seem to be cleaning my glasses a lot more recently.

I think if you are gentle then exfoliation may help. I like Micro Cleanse from Alpha H - it’s gentle but effective. You could try a DIY one first to see if it helps, saves you shelling out for a product.

GrimDamnFanjo · 13/07/2020 01:03

It could be sebborhic dermatitis ?

Alongcameacat · 13/07/2020 01:12

Thank you for all your replies.

It isn't oily and I think it might be psoriasis. I will try exfoliating. I think I may have some Dermalogica microfoliant and if I don't have any left, I'm pretty sure I have some samples of it which I can try before buying another one.

I'm eating a tonne of sugar since lockdown which won't have helped!

OP I had this recently too, then a few weeks ago heard a discussion on ABC radio with a dermatologist who was saying there is a microscopic mite that lives in eyebrows...unsure if other areas are included as I missed the start of the discussion...so I decided to try the remedy mentioned and sure enough the itch and dry skin has disappeared.

I used liquid soap to lightly scrub my eyebrows, then dried with a soft towel and applied Garnier 7-Day Intensive Lotion which is non-greasy. Repeated this for 3-4 days and now make sure I pay attention to eyebrows in the shower. It was mentioned that people might wash their face often but not pay attention to their eyebrows.

For me it was worth a try and even though it's only been a few weeks, the improvement is noticeable.

Hope this helps? ;-))

Yes I have the same problem, it’s sebborheic dermatitis.

Alongcameacat · 13/07/2020 01:50

A mite that lives in eyebrows?! No!!! I just googled them and am freaked out but I don't have the symptoms they cause so I don't think I have them.

Definitely sounds like seborrhoeic dermatitis.
I get flaky eyebrows, the skin in between and on my nose.
Glycolic acid really helps, and keeping the area hydrated as well.
After cleansing my face, I give the area a gentle rub with my towel and rub off all the dry areas and flaky skin.
I also use an anti fungal cream which has helped with the redness and flaky skin as well.

I use vitamin E oil on my brows and lashes; it is easily absorbed and makes them thick and glossy, so that might work.

smileannie · 16/07/2020 10:17

I had this too. I rub a very small amount of Superdrug vitamin e oil into them 2-3 times a week and this seems to work on mine.
