Hi all. Starting to think about what I need for new baby later this year.
Would you say a backpack is better than a one shoulder? Any recommendations?

Pacapod looks good and there’s a sale

I liked my sweaty Betty backpack.

I always had way less than my mum friends I don't know what everyone packed in there?! I only had a small toiletries bag with a couple nappies, wipes, cream... My foldable mat plus a spare babygrow and a couple Muslims plus a bottle of water.

Just get a bag you actually like 👍

Jem and Bea do lovely changing bags, I loved my Jemima messenger style bag. I used to have the strap really long so I could still wear it with the baby strapped to my front, I could easily reach anything I needed without taking it off or faffing around with it like you do with rucksacks.

Being able to put it on your back is very valuable when you need your hands to carry the baby. I bought the Pacapod Saunton and loved it. Lots of pockets and it doesn’t look like a changing bag. It’s currently reduced at Mamas and Papas!

I had a pacapod. Loved the removable pods but hated the rest of the bag.

I used a backpack the last time - bought the mia tui sydney bag in a funky pattern, plus some pvc bags to keep wet/dry things separate. I still use both now (5 years on)

If it helps,we went on a picnic the other day and used three of the four Pacapod pods! That's five years on from you fear child being a baby! They definitely have longevity!!!

From youngest! Not you fear! Damn iPhone! 😂😂😂

OP if you have your heart set on something that’s marketed as a “changing bag” then just do it.

However you can get normal backpack type bags that have internal organisation (or can easily create that by buying separate pouches) that are much more practical and look just as good/better. We used a Kanken which clips on to the pram and we had a skiphop pronto changing mat inside it. The skiphop is like a self contained bag so you can just throw it in the pram if you don’t need the whole bag and it also acts as internal organiser (it’s a changing mat and holds nappies and wipes). You can get little clips to attach any bag to a pram and tbh it’s useful to have these anyway as you can use them for eg shopping bags.

I’d highly recommend backpack style over shoulder bag, and try to get something lightweight.

Another bonus for us of using a normal bag was that when DH took our baby out he was happy to use it so we didn’t have to faff around moving things into a separate bag for him.

Thanks all. Decided on a backpack that’s in navy or black so that my husband can just pick it up and take it out if he needs to!

Just to update - ended up getting the backpack changing bag from Aldi and it’s absolutely brilliant. So cheap, comes with a mat, loads of compartments.

Hi OP,

Was it one of these? I’m interested and have been getting a bit overwhelmed with the huge range of changing bags and backpacks out there!

@TwinklyLightsandBaubles yes it was. I bought a couple due to how cheap they are. Very sturdy and look more stylish in real life. I nearly spent silly money on a pacapod.
