Growing out a longish pixie

So, a little before we went into lockdown, I had my hair cut in a longish pixie cut, with a very short back. My hair is fine and naturally wavy / curly and it did look very nice when it was done, I think.

Anywho, after covid and lockdown, lack of access to hairdressers and so on, it has grown in to a rather fetching (sarcasm), wavy mullet. Short at the front, growing down my neck at the back 😩. It is not a good look, AT ALL. So, I have decided to grow it into something which needs less maintenance / fewer trips to hairdressers.

I am aiming for a just off the shoulder length, blunt cut, more or less all the same length.

I have an appointment in about a month's time and I'm wondering what I should have done to make the grow out less painful. Or should I cancel the appointment, grit my teeth and let my Billy Ray Cyrus look shine it grow out?

Any advice much appreciated.

I’m in a similar position, although mine was slightly longer at the back than yours. Tell your hairdresser what you are planning to do and ask them to trim it so that it can grow down without looking a mess. They should be able to shape it to make it easier to grow out.

Yes, my hairdresser is wonderful. I'm sure she will know what to do.

I loved my pixie, but my God it was bad timing having it done right before covid struck! Definitely not a low maintenance cut.

I’m in your position and had my mullet removed yesterday and an overall light trim. It’s amazing how she somehow made my hair look longer by cutting it. Definitely get it cut!

Thanks, ok, I think I will get it cut. She is a great hairdresser.

I also enjoyed "mullet removed" as a phrase 😂. Makes it sound like a medical procedure.

Well, I am booked in for mullet removal next month and it will have some time to grow out a bit by then too, so I might still be left with a bit of length, once I've been demulleted.

I had exactly the same. For a couple of weeks in April it was like a mid-90s "Rachel" and then it went mullet so, with the aid of two mirrors and a steady hand, I cut off the bottom bit and converted it to a bob. Now it's flipping out at the bottom and brings to mind "Dee-Lite". I quite like it at the moment so will wait for the panic to die down.

(This isn't me unfortunately)

Well I like Billy Ray Cyrus .
When I was growing out my Pixie I looked like Justin Bieber in his "Baby" days .....

I had it trimmed to straighten , clipped the sides back or used a grippy headband and now I have wavy , swingey , shoulder caressing hair Grin

Grin @StCharlotte and @70isaLimitNotaTarget!

I am considering asking my hairdresser if she can make it into a v short bob. The back was literally a buzz cut when I had it done, but I thinka v short bob might just be achievable. I might ask about a fringe as well, so it looks a bit more deliberately odd if that makes sense? Edgy on purpose rather than a nightmarish grow out.
