Divine, budget friendly handcream

So, recently started chemo and have been instructed to cream my hands 4 times daily. They were already suffering with all the handwashing anyway. I was gifted some gorgeous Neal's Yard geranium and orange hand cream which I love but is gone in under a week. I want to nurture and treat myself with similar loveliness but I'd appreciate a cheaper option at the rate I'm using it.

Any suggestions of where I can source it cheaper, or other equally lovely products as alternatives? Artificial scents are turning my stomach but the essential oils don't seem to the same.

Oh Oracle of mumsnet, what solutions do you have?

Oh - I was going to recommend Neals Yard Bee Lovely.

OK, Aveeno is good and has no scent. It's about £5.

Good luck with the chemo Flowers

I highly recommend the solid handcream from the Edinburgh Skincare Company
They have a few different fragrances, all of which are scented with essential oils, and they work amazingly well (fixed cracks in my hands in just a couple of days!)

Best for dry hands (not the scent)
Aveeno & olive oil soap

The clarins one is expensive but lasts quite well. Loccitainevalso good. Body shop hemp seems to get good reviews but doesn't suit me. Get well x

Aveeno skin relief hand cream has saved my hands at work with the non stop hand washing.

The smell might not appeal, but my absolute best hand cream is the Body Shop hemp one. I like the scent but I realise it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.

L'occitane Mother and Baby balm I think it's called. I was given it as a gift when DTs were in NICU because of all the hand washing. Not cheap cheap but a tube lasts ages.

Weleda pomegranate hand cream!

Tavannach · 07/07/2020 23:30

Neutrogena Norwegian Formula. It's about 4 quid but often on offer cheaper than that in Boots or Superdrug. I wouldn't call it divine but it's recommended by dermatologists.

Also Garnier Hand Intensive 7 Days Restoring Hand Cream.

I would buy some white cotton gloves and layer a thick generous amount of vaseline on and sleep in the gloves, you wake up and your hands are as smooth and nourished as anything.

In fact use any cream but really put a thick layer on.

I always come back to palmers shea butter cream, works for me, especially for cracks. Body shop ones also very nice but used up quickly and it’s easy to put too much on, which I don’t have with palmers Shea butter as it is very thick. Also I have accepted that my hands do have some patches of quite dry sore cream that I now put a mild steroid cream on which I got from pharmacy, otherwise it gets really sore. Meaning to try the solid hand cream bars, especially for environment, but haven’t yet.
