VAT on children's clothing

I bought some clothes for DS (18mo) from an independent business and noticed after paying that I've been charged VAT on them - aren't children's clothes zero-rated? The shop only sells children's clothing. Just wanted to check whether this should have been charged and if it shouldn't have been any advice on how to approach the seller about it would be much appreciated.

Should have mentioned - the shop is based in the UK.

Have you tried Google?
From memory I think childrens clothes are VAT free.
