Help me look less of a wreck!

I'm trying to sort myself out in general. Counselling, weight loss, lots of water etc etc. I'm doing well apart from my face!

I want a skincare routine that doesn't flare up my skin and then a basic everyday makeup look so I don't look red, rashy and exhausted.

I have rosacea and none of the creams or antibiotics have done squat, I've got it to a place where it isn't a sore, bleeding mess and I can live with that but I can't get rid of that super shiny, red oily nose. The rest of my skin is actually quite dry.

At the moment I use a basic sensitive Micellar no rise wash on it everyday and then e45 because that doesn't irritate it and it helps with the dryness.
I have a colour corrector for my very uneaten skin tone, it's the one step one from Stila and seems to work well, then I use a basic waterproof mascara and a tinted lip balm.

Whilst I feel I look more out together than I have in years I'd like to take it a step further and sort my poor nose out, there's red spider veins and I'm starting to get a lot of wrinkles. (I know ageing is ageing and I'm not ashamed of it at all, happy to age but want to start looking after myself up until recently I haven't)

My pores are huge so I'd like to see if I can sort that out too.

I'd like a simple routine that I can do, and then 3/4 key bits of makeup that I can use as a fresher everyday look.

Have they referred you to dermatology? You can take accutane for roseacea in some cases & it’s worth seeing them anyway if normal treatments failed.

I took accutane for acne.

I don't have rosacea but I do have very sensitive skin and an uneven skin tone with a lot of redness across my nose and forehead. I have found that Superdrug Vitamin E products work well on my face and use the hot cloth cleanser twice a day with the moisture boost serum and day cream in the morning and Clinique Redness Solutions daily relief cream at night. I have yet to find anything that completely gets rid of the redness but a good foundation helps. There are lots of make up tutorials on YouTube I am sure someone will be along with some recommendations.

One thing I have learned is to make sure that if you are wearing make up you cleanse your skin really really well at night. Any residual make up is really bad for sensitive skin.

Splash your face with cold water 30-50 times. Each morning. It really wakes it up.. and you! And Trinny London make up is fantastic (a bit pricey) but really natural and easy to apply. Good luck.

Can I suggest watching Nadine Baggot on either IGTV or YouTube. She’s an ex beauty editor whose routine I started following at the beginning of lockdown. She has done a rosacea specific video which is worth a watch.

She also says not to use micellar water. Essentially it’s a detergent. She generally recommends non fragranced, budget products.

Brilliant advice thanks.

I've asked for a referral to dermatologist but no joy. I don't know how much a private consultation would be.

I will look at all the things recommended.

NICE Guidlines for roseacea. Look at the section “when to refer” and see if their adhering to guidelines.

They can’t just ignore protocols, your face shouldn’t dominate your life.

I will ask the GP again for referral. I'm cautions if taking medication that can trigger MH issues as I have history.

I've considered IPL but I'd want to make sure it's the right thing for me rather than because the cosmetic clinic wants the £££ if that makes sense.

I asked the nurse if they had anyone get mh problems and she said they hadn’t.

I was on it 4 months & at the end of month 3 I was so tired that I could see how people would get down but you do bounce back once you come off it.

I have very sensitive skin (possibly rosacea) and am reactive to a lot of products.

What has helped me the most are ceramides, hyaluronic acid and a few drops of oil.

My most calming routine consists of origins clean energy cleansing oil, Hada labo hyaluronic acid (one pump), dr Jart Ceramidin liquid, 3/4 drops of oil pressed into the skin (varies which, but I really like the Balance me rose oil, douvalls skin high argan oil, scientia dawn elixir, zelens power d oil, herbivore lapis oil) then I use a moisturiser to seal it all in (Ceramidin cream, Ceramidin gel cream, or an indeed moisturiser would probably be best for you).

Stay away from fragrance and up the fruits and veggies (especially water filled ones), drink lots of water and take some supplements.
