Will I regret getting a bob?

My hair is thick and prone to frizz. It waves naturally but I usually blow dry it. It always just looks messy instead of tousled Grin

It's the longest it's ever been (boob length) and I had been feeling fed up with it. I'd like a bob but my mum was horrified and said I'm too young (29) Confused

Will I regret it? I was more worried about it being aging/frumpy...

Don't do it unless you're prepared to style everyday.

Have you tried a shoulder length?

I'd love a bob but my hair is like yours and it's just too much upkeep.

That said, I recently discovered the Revlon one step styler and it has literally been life changing, so maybe a bob might be back on the cards one day....

Will you have a fringe? I have had both and definitely think without a fringe is less ageing than with a fringe.
My hair is thick and straight (Dull!) and so it’s quite easy for me. Will yours need a lot of effort to maintain it?

ToBobOrNotToBob · 04/07/2020 22:16

No, no fringe. I find fringes hard work.

Are they really hard work? My hair takes so long to dry now, it's really annoying me. Maybe shoulder length first is a good first step.

I've got an angled bob and don't find it hard work at all, if I can't be bothered doing it I just tie it back in a mini pony 🤷🏻‍♀️

friendlyflicka · 04/07/2020 22:27

I have curly hair which looks good long or short. I would love a bob but every time I have tried, I have found it the most labour intensive length for my hair. My sister has thicker curly hair and looks great with jaw length

IlanaWexler · 04/07/2020 22:33

I had a messy wavy bob for years. It was low maintainance for me - I would just towel dry it, put some frizz ease "air dry waves" mousse through it and scrunch it up. My hair is probably thinner than yours though.

2020times · 04/07/2020 22:57

Thick hair? Don't do it - it'll need styling every day.

I have very thick hair, I shower- put a tiny bit of argan oil on it and very loosely plait it. That's usually enough

BollyHobs · 04/07/2020 22:59

I cut mine and absolutely love it. It feels so modern compared to long hair.

Make sure you get a cool stylist tho. There are bobs and there are bobs.

KetoWinnie · 04/07/2020 23:02

No, i have hair like yours a bobs = triangles.
Dont go shorter than an inch below shoulders and get an undercut to make it thinner and easier to straighten.

Turkeydrumstick · 04/07/2020 23:02

I have thick frizzy hair and I know I suit a Bob the best but it’s just such a pain not being able to tie it up! I’d have to straighten it everyday! Maybe try it if you are working from home?

Immigrantsong · 04/07/2020 23:04

OP what I have found during this lockdown is that having an easy to maintain hairstyle that has no fringe or needs colouring has been a safe decision.

I would stick to long or shoulder length hair in one length.

Seriously we don't know what's around the corner and it's good not to have to worry about hair.

KetoWinnie · 04/07/2020 23:05

A very graduated bob that 'allows' curly thick frizzy hair could work. So hard to get that good cut.

IdblowJonSnow · 04/07/2020 23:05

What about a lob? - long bob.
I have the same hair type and the shorter it is the harder work it is.
But you could still do it for a change and see.

ToBobOrNotToBob · 04/07/2020 23:15

Oh dear. I know exactly what a PP said about turning into a triangle.

I think either a lob or collarbone cut will be it. At least if we lockdown again I can grow it out!

I cut from your length to bob when our salons opened (I'm overseas) and love it. It is too short to tie back but I just wash it and leave it (photo is with ghd curls as my hair's naturally straight). To be honest the only difference from it being long is using less shampoo and conditioner in the shower.

With frizzy hair I fear you will regret it, yes.

Mawbags · 05/07/2020 00:01

@Chochito

Lovey hair!

Op I had a graduate Bob a couple of years ago, I’ll be honest I hated it and felt that it made me look instantly Middle Aged

I now have it to my mid back with a properly short “art school” fringe so that’s the only styling I have to worry about and it’s much easier

Carouselfish · 05/07/2020 00:49

You have the ideal hair to have that 1920s wavy bob look like Indira Varma. I'd love to have that. I think shorter hair looks better on younger people than older anyway. Spunky rather than frumpy.
