Do you have a capsule wardrobe?

If so, (vaguely), what is in it? I am making an inventory of my wardrobe today, (yes, really 🤓), and am curious how people manage with just a few items in their wardrobe...

I'm working towards this...

So far 1 black and 1 white camisoles for under blouses, 2 blouses, 2 pencil skirts, black leggings, a couple of smart dresses (suitable for work / interviews / funerals / evening wedding receptions), one smart coat, 1 pair of jeans.

No; the idea appeals to me but I can't see how people manage without washing and drying small numbers of items every couple of days.

I do however have an inventory of my wardrobe and it helps me not to buy things I already have; also good for deciding what to wear for a given occasion relatively quickly. I include the year of purchase and whether things need replacing.

I think it's difficult if you live in a climate like the UK where the weather is fairly variable. Or maybe it's just me that needs 6 different warmth grades of cardigan...😄
I also like to dress for how I feel, so enjoy variety in my wardrobe.

Thanks for responses.

@torthecatlady, wow, that is very minimal! I imagine it makes mornings easy though, as you probably don't have to think too much. I always thought I had a small wardrobe, but actually, compared to what you describe, I really don't.

@WitsEnding, I feel validated, thank you Grin. I love a list and, you're right, I was looking at the online sales today and my inventory actually came in very handy! I have listed my dresses and bottoms. About to move on to tops and outerwear. Shoes will be a pain to do, but will be worth it I think, as I always forget what I have and then go to buy more or less the same fecking thing twice Blush.

@thedevilinablackdress, yes, I think that's true as well. The variation in weather in this country means you do end up needing a lot of options. Certainly with footwear, I find I need quite a few options, depending on weather. If I'm packing for a weekend away, I always end up bringing a few pairs of shoes.

OP if you have an iPhone have a look at Stylebook. It’s been my lockdown project and I LOVE it.

LadyPrigsbottom · 05/07/2020 10:08

Thanks! I would love to use Stylebook, but sadly have an Android! We do have a family iPad, but don't think I'd be allowed on it long enough to inventory my wardrobe! I am looking for an Android version, but not sure what any of them are like. Will have a google.

Not really, for reasons above, but nearly all my clothes are ‘mix & matchable’ so the basic looks are similar and most things go together.

LadyPrigsbottom · 05/07/2020 10:27

Tornado, I think that is a good plan.

I try to stick to a few colours which all go well together, but there is the odd rogue item which doesn't go, but which I can't let go of!

No as such as not sure what it really means but I have a work wardrobe. Sometimes I’m away for three or four days at a time and working long hours on those days. I have about a dozen dresses in non-crease, dark colours that I can literally throw on in the morning and look presentable, when I put a jacket on. There’s about three styles in four colours each. Nude shoes in summer, black or navy in winter.
Don’t have to think about what to wear.

LadyPrigsbottom · 05/07/2020 11:28

That makes sense Cherry. I am a SAHM at the moment, but am hoping to go back to work soonish, (great time to be looking for work, I don't think 😩). If by some miracle I find a job, I definitely need a work capsule. I definitely didn't enjoy picking out clothes for work. My last job was in a quite corporate office, so everything had to be pretty plain.
