Clothes Makeover - Help me stylish ones!

Hello!

I am in desperate need of some style assistance. I don't know where to start.

I am 36. 5'4 (short legs) and have recently lost nearly a third of my body weight. I was 15 stone after two babies in quick succession, plus some health problems relating to that and am now just over 10 stone. I'm quite an hourglass shape
figure, big bum and boobs.

For the last six years, I've lived in either maternity clothing, or frumpy jeggings with a long loose top and a cardigan. Dressing to try to hide my size, mainly.

I am now at a reasonably healthy weight and I need a new wardrobe! Problem is, the shops I used to shop in when I was 30 (and this sort of size) really just don't appeal anymore. Topshop, River Island, New Look.Lots of the clothes just seem so trendy. I'm looking for more classic things, don't mind spending a bit more.

Can someone recommend some nice shops? I need new jeans, trousers, some skirts, dresses, tops! I have no clue how to accessorise. No call for anything super smart or workwear as I'm a sahm, but just want to look less 'mum of small kids'. I realised I had the same cardigan on as my 65 year old MIL the other day and realised that things have got to change!!!

Congratulations on your weight loss - that’s amazing.

I think the post-baby style haze is really hard. The solution is probably that you need to find your style tribe and then go for it with a new wardrobe. Get on Pinterest/instagram and just pin away at loads of pictures/styles/people that you think look good.

Gradually a style will emerge (eg, white trainers with skirts; or heavy boots with jeans; or chinos and ballet pumps, etc etc) and you can follow that for wardrobe basics.

I love Compotoir Des Cotonniers for basics and recommend them on here about twice a week, but the clothes are really good quality. These cotton boyfriend trousers are gorgeous - fashionable but classic/great value basic for £45. That might be the sort of thing to start off with.

Thank you. It wasn't easy, but I've to have surgery for my post birth problem under GA late this year (hopefully) and I didn't want to go under GA whilst being so overweight. Plus, the fact that covid affects overweight people more, scared me into action I think.

I will check that shop out and good idea about Pinterest.

I just want to look like me again, but a little older, more put together and stylish me! My tummy will never be the same again (thank you children!) but I feel like I can dress better now I'm not trying to hide in tents!

Well done on an amazing weight loss! I live in hope! Last week I cleared out my entire wardrobe and was left with a handful of t-shirts and 2 pairs of jeans. If you want a clean slate this is a really good idea- I felt lighter! Then i ordered 5x t-shirts and a pair of trendier jeans (not skinny) from Arket. I've just ordered some shirts from mango ( will see what the quality is like). I've bought 2 pairs of trainers- one white and one black. For the past 3 days I've felt trendier! For years I've been saying I want to do this and having started I'm really pleased I did!. This is what I recommend! Good luck!
