What do you think about waistcoats?

there are a lot about in the shops at the moments....over a blouse with high-waisted trousers or Kate Moss - style. I quite like them but I can't help thinking about the one I had in the 80s with frilly blouse and velvet pedel-pushers - Adam Ant style

I'll try and find some links.

oh this is like the gilet thread a little while ago - I should think not a good idea on a large chested person

Jojay · 27/09/2007 18:50

I like 'em

WelshBoris · 27/09/2007 21:25

I wear mine with skinny black jeans and a tshirt

Or over a white shirt for work

lou33 · 27/09/2007 21:34

boris, your daughter is gorgeous, beautiful hair (peeped at your profile)

WelshBoris · 28/09/2007 07:24

Thanks lou

i pay good money to make mine curly, i bet she ends up wanting straight hair when she is bigger lol

honestly she is adorable

SmartArse · 28/09/2007 11:41

Oooooh, she's fabulous (sorry, couldn't resist peeking!). LOVE the hair. I've always wanted curly hair, but mine couldn't be straighter [sob]

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 28/09/2007 11:50

I prefer a tank top meself. I have some lovely ones from Jigsaw. Waistcoats I wore in the 80's/early 90's and it's hard to get away from that.

cardy · 28/09/2007 13:56

I know but I wish I'd kept mine from the 80s....but I bet they would be too small now.

Thanks Cardy - will have a look tomorrow; usually only go into New Look and Topshop to look at stuff with dd1 - will I feel very old?!

cardy · 01/10/2007 11:23

I know I always feel a bit 'mature' when I go into New Look - even the staff are all under 20! Someone told me recently that they do really nice shoes - I might go back and have a look.

boobs that is.

Shorts - I like them, but what lenght? I'd go for just above the knee, not brave enough for anything shorter.

OP posts:
cardy · 01/10/2007 11:35

GG - Love the Karen Millen one..

Gobbledigook · 01/10/2007 11:37

Shorts would have to be thigh length - knee length would be a no-no I think. Doesn't matter if they are short if you have tights on. I just think everyone would look at me and think 'fashion victim'!!

NomDePlume · 01/10/2007 11:43

I saw quite a few chic ones out and about this weekend. I think they can look good on the right person - generally tall, flat-chested and long-limbed.

I don't nec think that waistcoats are a fashion only suitable for certain age groups but I do think they are only good on the slender, giraffe types. Otherwise it's all a bit David Essex.

NomDePlume · 01/10/2007 11:45

Oh God, speaking of shorts, I went out in the Manchester backwaters on Saturday night (not where I saw the chic wasitcoats), there was an abundance of teeny, tiny shorts and stilettos. It was like a uniform. Naffarama
