So far we've bought all of DS's shoes/sandals from bobux, startrite, happy little soles etc (19 months). I remember getting blisters as a child from God awful jelly shoes, and have flat feet and suffer with plantar fasciitis as an adult so I suppose I'm a bit cautious that DS has shoes that adequately support his growing feet. Having said that the companies above don't really do what I would call trainers, things for running around the park in and the free they do are pretty ugly. DH joked about whether DS would ever have footwear that weren't soft leather shoes (tan/navy) with a velcro strap, and he might have a point.
I have been looking at Geox but they are fairly pricey, I'm ok with that if it's for a reason, but if he'd be just as well supported and comfortable in Nikes/Reeboks etc I'm open to that, especially as there seem to be a lot of sales on at the moment. I know to avoid converse types (too rigid, too flat, too heavy). Am I right to want a trainer designed for growing feet or am I over thinking this?

My mum worked in Clark's when I was little and I always had Clark's shoes. I've done the same with my son and like how they're measured properly.
My stepson has always had Nike Adidas etc from being tiny and his feet are very flat. I'll post a link to the trainers my 2 year old currently, they are much nicer than in the picture....

My 20 month old has lovely trainers from Clark's.

Hes also had the Ath Flux Clark's ones which look nice on. He had the red ones but they do navy and grey too.

Geox are great

whoami24601 · 30/06/2020 10:00

Tkmaxx often have Geox if you can get to one?

HowLongCanICallitBabyWeight · 30/06/2020 20:24

@Catboysmama he's only a 5 so not quite big enough for those yet, they look light weight and comfy though.
I feel more justified in the Geox now, just had a moment where I thought maybe I'm just being a bit PFB and they seem to be hard wearing enough for nursery (very outdoorsy with forest school attached) and they have a sale on so no more expensive than Clarks

The Flux ones start a bit lower. Mine has big elephant feet! He's a size 8 already!

I bought ds trainers in Sainsbury’s, I started out saying no supermarket shoes only properly fitted ones but the clarks shoes he’s had have had such little wear as he won’t wear them. The wellies from M&S were worn out and the Sainsbury’s trainers and canvas shoes have been very good value for money.

The thing about most toddler trainers is that they have quite thick soles. Compare the height of the heel to their foot size and height, and it'd be the equivalent of us walking around in platforms.

Bobux have some trainer type shoes with better soles.

Tfoot75 · 02/07/2020 20:48

Skechers. Super light and flexible and the only shoes that I find comfy enough to walk around all day in!

BikeRunSki · 02/07/2020 20:51

OP, have a look a Happy Little Soles and Pediped.

Bollockingfuck · 02/07/2020 20:55

I just got a lovely pair of Geoxx trainers from La redoute with 50% off. Sale is still on now.
We also use Clark’s for trainers and school shoes - you can often get them from their online outlet store quite cheaply.

TiggeryBear · 02/07/2020 21:08

My kids have these from Asda for running about in. I definitely prefer them to have proper shoes but their feet have grown since lockdown began & these are very lightweight & have the added bonus of being machine washable. (Very handy after we got stuck in the mud in a torrential downpour.)

Geox are really good. Superfit as well if you can get those in the UK.

I have found that when I've occasionally had the sports type brand ones for little kids they actually aren't very supportive - fashion over form.

BertieBotts · 02/07/2020 21:09

Asda actually have some of the best "barefoot" type shoes - their First Walker range with the T-bar.

I started off with Clark's but when toddler started to really scuff from falling over and climbing I bought some sainsburys trainers (£1.50) in the sale and they were great so have been getting them every since.

She has a foot problem which requires wider shoes but never had a problem with sainsburys ones.

If I find any sale Clark ones then I do get them.

Just make sure feet are measured properly.

When you try the shoe on let them walk around and check it doesnt slip on the heel, the longest toe is not touching the end and the foot is not pushing out the side or top. When you take the shoe off there shouldn't be major indents in the skin.
