Dentist teeth whitening

Anyone share their experience? How much was it? Was it a one off or do you need to do stuff at home too? Top ups? (And what is this?) How long did it last? Did it make your teeth more sensitive? Would you recommend? I would love to have my teeth whitened but know absolutely nothing about it right now! Thank you :)

I paid about £300 I think and it was money well spent. They took a mould of my mouth and I got four syringes of the gel which lasted ages in the fridge and I did top ups every now and then as needed. Once you have the mould you can order more gel from the dentist.

EndlessUserName · 28/06/2020 08:38

Thank you! How long did it last / has it lasted so far? How often do you do the top ups roughly? Is it easy? (I'm very lazy!)

Oh wait have I read this correctly - one you have the mold then you don't need the dentist to do it again ever, so long as you carry on the top ups?

It is easy. You put an absolutely tiny amount of gel on each tooth in the mouth guard, put it in and leave it in for several hours, usually overnight because you can’t eat or drink with it in obviously.

cantshakethis · 28/06/2020 09:25

I had enlighten done at the dentist and at home for £500

My teeth were relatively white already but it did give them a really bright clean look- except it didn't white the part of the tooth near the gum so that was a bit shit

And sensitivity was horrific

essexmum777 · 28/06/2020 09:40

I've had the tray at home, the zoom and the whitestrips, all wear off - i would only go for the whitestrips again.

Benzer01 · 01/07/2020 10:44

How do you deal with the sensitivity? Does it hurt during the process? How long does it last afterwards? I've had my trays & 10% gel ready to go for months, but am a chicken & am terrified..

redwoodmazza · 01/07/2020 10:56

I was considering this but I have 2 crowns at the front and it doesn't work on those...

TumbledGlass · 01/07/2020 11:04

I paid about £250 for the trays, no sensitivity at all. Mine didn't go blindingly white but I was pleased with the difference. I was given two different kinds of gel, one can be worn for an hour and the other one is for overnight. I found the hourly one the best so twice a year or so I buy a top-up for £25.

lockdownalli · 01/07/2020 12:48

I did the trays.

I really should have thought it through though. I am dyspraxic, so for me to get the product in the little mould bits was dreadful. I either missed it entirely or put too much in and had to rip the moulds out of my mouth in the middle of the night in agony as the bleach dripped into my gums. Grin

If I did it again I would do the laser one. A friend did it and her teeth look fabulous. DS wants it done but as he refuses to give up his black coffee habit there is no point.

Currently using the Pearl Drops Charcoal paste...

EndlessUserName · 01/07/2020 13:07

Thanks so much everyone! Hmm have you all.given up tea and coffee then?

OP posts:
CrystalMaisie · 01/07/2020 13:21

I did the dentist one with the trays 11 years ago, tiny blob of the bleach in each tooth bit. It was every day for two weeks, I think I had a break for a couple of days after about 10 days because of sensitivity, then went back to it.
I still get comments on my white teeth (I’m 51), but I don’t drink tea, coffee or red wine. I top up a couple of days every couple of years, that’s all.
I have to say through, I became more conscious of my teeth and ended up having a brace too.

EndlessUserName · 01/07/2020 21:20

That's so interesting thanks @CrystalMaisie did you give up those drinks or just not like them to begin with? I'm not sure I can give them up, so not sure if there's any point in my having my teeth whitened!

OP posts:
CrystalMaisie · 02/07/2020 21:38

@stopfundinghate I didn’t like them to start with 😂

That’s such a good price! My dentist quoted £800
OntheWaves40 · 02/07/2020 22:49

I couldn’t do this is I could never give up my tea and coffee habit! No even for the 24 hours after!

cantshakethis · 03/07/2020 10:14

I Haven't given up tea or coffee and they have stayed white enough. Done 1 top up in 3 years

lockdownalli · 03/07/2020 10:15

I think it's black coffee that's the problem. That's what my dentist said anyway.

And red wine Sad

BillieEilish · 03/07/2020 10:23

I live in Spain and had laser whitening at the dentist five years ago. I had given up smoking, been in hospital for a while and my teeth just needed a proper clean.

I looked healthier and younger afterwards. Takes 24 hours for full effect. Was told I needed to go back every two years or so. Not needed to yet. Not hugely, glaringly white but much healthier nice, clean white. whiter than they had ever been.

A bit sensitive for a day and no drinks like coffee, tea or red wine for 5 days afterwards.

Everything else through a straw! Then the teeth stop being absorbent or something and you are good to go!

Couldn't use trays as teeth a bit uneven and I preferred this method all round really.

Cost 250 euros. 5 years ago.

BillieEilish · 03/07/2020 10:25

I drink plenty of coffee and red wine!! Grin

It's smoking that is an absolute no no.

Thewoodstar · 03/07/2020 11:20

@TumbledGlass what is the name of the gel you buy for an hour? I used to use it and I can’t remember the name. I still have my trays and could do with topping my teeth up! Thank you

TumbledGlass · 03/07/2020 20:31

I'm really sorry I don't have any gel at the moment so don't know the name. I just buy one when I go for my dental check-ups.

BobFleming · 03/07/2020 20:38

I had Enlighten done last year. I think it was £550.

2 weeks at home (iirc) and then one session in dentist's.

My dentist also gave me some syringes for top ups.

Teeth were lovely and pretty white, but I'll admit I bought stronger peroxide over the internet (38%) and that has been fantastic. I don't get any sensitivity though. The Enlighten kit comes with desensitising swabs and a special toothpaste to use in advance to help with sensitive teeth.

Gingertam · 03/07/2020 20:39

I had it done 7 years ago with the trays. My teeth still look good even though I'm a red wine drinker. As said above I think black coffee is the big no no. It's worth every penny. Teeth just look nice and clean not tippex white. I would have it done again.
