Epilating the female areas

Hi so after a semi recent break up I have decided I want to get myself in gear, lose a bit of this lock down weight and find a man. I’ve been watching 365 days and hoping to meet a Massimo lookalike

Anyway, I am hairier than the average female. And I’m pretty embarrassed that the bottom of my bum is covered in fine black hairs.

I did once get exp to shave it for me but I was actually horrified that he was going all over my cheeks to remove the hair!! Didn’t realise it was that bad!! I do have pcos so I’m guessing that is the reason for this hairiness.

So, been looking at epilators online and was wondering if any lovely mumsnetters with a similar problems to my own could recommend an epilator to use on this area!

I’ve read a few shit reviews from a couple of products and some say specifically to be used on legs only and I’m a first time epilator so I don’t know if I can take this with a pinch of salt?

Also, if I epilate often enough, will this Reduce the nasty red spotty rash?

I had an epilator years ago and I couldn’t go above my knee with it. I also very hairy! If you can afford it do laser hair removal. It is expensive but so so worth it.

I epilate and it is a world of non-stop, never-ending pain. I would recommend you get waxed instead, much easier and quicker. After a few waxed when your hair is more manageable, you could try epilating and it won't hurt as much as it will now.

I started epilating this area when the lady I go to for waxing moved away. It's fine. I would buy any epilator you can. I've used three different ones over the years and they are all the same. I don't think it matters if they are marketed for legs only.
When I first started epilating I did it every 3 days to try and help the pain. If you wait till all the hairs are long it will be AGONY!! And it's bloody sore even when you're used to it. Just go for it. It's fine!

Aaaaaaargh I am amazed that some people can epilate this area! Ladies you are HARD Grin. I epilate my underarms - the first time was AGONY, I had to get DH to do it in the shower and I cried the whole way through! After that it's been totally painless.

Can't say the same for my legs though. I found this very painful. It took months before the pain reduced and I was finally able to do my thighs like PP said and then months before that wasn't hideously painful too. Eventually after doing it all frequently for many months it got ok but then I got out of the habit and it got painful again whenever I tried so I just sacked it off and went back to shaving.

I think getting the area waxed is probably your best bet tbh.

I epilated my whole body for years because waxing wasn't popular and common when I started so it wasn't something that even occured to me. You do get used to it after a while and grow numb to the pain. That is, everywhere but your bikini zone. That still hurts like hell and I only do it rarely now when I can't get waxed for whatever reason (like a global pandemic!) And for the odd stray hairs between waxed.

Honestly I dont know why anyone would choose to epilate instead of get waxed, except maybe the cost depending on where you live. But it's so not worth the pain and time and the soreness from weird positions anymore for me to save money, I was more resilliant (and flexible!) when I was younger Grin

My waxer is amazing and it's 15 minutes of quick bursts of pain and done! I treat myself to a coffee and cake afterwards so that sweetens the deal too.

I'm sorry OP I don't mean to to scare you off from epilators if you are dead set on getting one. But I just want you to know what you are getting into. You might have a sky high pain threshold or be one of the few lucky people who it doesn't hurt for, but that's probably unlikely.

Look into waxing and/or getting a Lumea. The Lumea is amazing and there are a billion threads on it on here. I just started using it between waxing/epilating and it's already made a huge difference. The hairs that do grow back are softer and easier to epilate as well.

Honestly I dont know why anyone would choose to epilate instead of get waxed,

I can’t get waxed as my skin is too sensitive and comes out in a horrendous angry red rash which lasts until the hairs start growing back so it defeats the purpose 😫

I have epilated around this area lots of times, it’s fine once you are used to epilating your legs etc so you know what to expect.

DO NOT epilate longish hairs!! Shave or immac if they are long and then epilate when they are around 2mm or so.

The Braun Silk Epil 9 is the best on the market. I have the previous model, the 7.

Start by using it in the bath, the water dulls the pain. You'll find you get red the first couple of times or so but after that your body adapts.
Some say underarms are painful but I've never found that.

Just ensure you hold your hand up stretched high like you really want to get picked by the teacher so the skin is taught.

Some of the hairs will stop growing back as well as time passes so that's a bonus.

I can manage to use it on the front bit of the pubic area. Truthfully the only area where I struggle is right between the legs as I do find that pretty painful.
