Anyone with thin, greasy hair gone 'turban and fuck it, at 58?

Miljea · 26/06/2020 20:16

I have needed to wash my thin, lank hair daily since I was13.

I'm now 58 this year.

The issue, now thankfully gone, a year ago, is not being woken up at 3am, on call, with Worzel Gummige hair that I had 2 mins to 'style' before heading into my HCP job; which is, now that on-call is gone, I know I need to look 'normal', and then way everyone has seen me over 14 years, now'....

But could I now do a complete hair cover? I have a fat, round face that has needed a fringe. The rest of it, shoulder length, (plus a bit) I wash, twist, and stick in a grippy thing, a beak like thing.

I think I will continue to do so, at work. But could I style out a turban thingy, for the 4 days I don't work?

Or should I use a can of dry shampoo every day?!

DH and I have a 3 year plus plan to motor -home in Europe. I can't wash my hair everyday, doing that.

WWYD?

I would cut it as short as possible to make it easier to manage
Either way, it's your hair, di what fits in with your lifestyle

slinkysaluki · 26/06/2020 20:59

Would probably look better cut shorter, blunt cuts make it look thicker

Plusher · 26/06/2020 21:02

Chop it off. Twisting thin greasy hair into a clip isn't a brilliant look.

FizzAfterSix · 26/06/2020 21:06

Have tape-in hair extensions put in.

Miljea · 26/06/2020 23:36

Whaaa? In a motor home in Croatia? 😊

I don't want s turban, but I have been considering cutting my hair really short and then investing in a really good wig. Just think it would make life easier to manage. .
People who I discuss it with, don't like the idea though.
So anyway, I say go for it.
And I found this really cool turban though sorry forgot I had my phone in night mode.

Cut it very short, and grin and bear it and wash it less often. Don't use conditioner.
The more you wash hair, the more it needs washing. I only wash my short hair once a week now.

This is not always true. If I leave my hair unwashed it falls out in rather large bits. The more I wash it the better it grows.

The more I wash it the better it grows.

Medically speaking, that doesn't make sense.

Herja · 27/06/2020 11:59

It's the same with me @Notanotheruser111. I genuinely think it gets so heavy with grease it snaps.

I've tried training my hair out of daily washing before. All I achieved was a look that appeared to be wet look gel, but was actually just oil...

I think a turban is fine OP. It's your body. So long as you look appropriate for the situation you are in (so maybe smarter/plainer ones for some days and more 'fun' ones on others), you should be free to dress as you please.

hustler2020 · 27/06/2020 12:00

i have frizzy hair have been blowdrying it for years going on holiday is a nightmare especially when caravaning ( which i love well jel 😂)

my opinion is do a buzz cut very liberating /cool and invest in a good wig for when you want to spice it up

SmileyClare · 27/06/2020 12:10

Could I style out a turban thingy

Yes but you'd need to (in your words) style it out. You're going to have to make it part of your outfit, maybe invest in beautiful scarves and learn how to artfully tie them.

I have a neighbour about your age who looks amazing with her head wrapped in a colourful scarf. She's quite flamboyant, colourful and well dressed, well made up which perhaps helps and she seems to magically be able to tie a scarf so it doesn't move and looks like an artful creation.

Wearing a turban you may get sympathy from people assuming you have lost your hair from chemo.

Veterinari · 27/06/2020 20:36

Do you use a silicone free shampoo and conditioner @Miljea ?

I have super fine greasy hair too. But it turns out it's not greasy. It just can't tolerate the build up of silicones that regular shampoos contain
