Can you recommend a lactic acid for me?

Hello. I'm new to acids. I've been reading lots and thought a lactic acid would suit me as I think it's good for beginners, I have dry and dehydrated skin, mid 30s and only early signs of aging. I occasionally have sensitive skin. I'm looking to use it twice a week to begin with the see how my skin tolerates it. Does this all sound about right? And can anyone recommend one please? Thank you

Also would I need to be more careful in the sun if I start using lactic acid? Thanks

Revolution beauty have a selection of chemical exfoliants for fairly cheap and I think you will find one to suit you. My experience with the peels is to use a little and not very frequently. At first I thought it didn't do anything then about a week later saw major flaking and peeling off. Defintately use spf to protect the delicate skin you reveal from peeling. The offputting part is the flaky and dry appearance you can get. I prefer to switch up chemical and physical exfoliants to minimise the scaly look.

I adore the Oskia mask. It is ££ but you wake up looking fab.

EndlessUserName · 27/06/2020 06:42

Thanks, I'll take a look at revolution now @chuggabo

@PersonaNonGarter that's exactly what I'd been looking at but it was out of stock! So maybe it's worth waiting for, thank you. This one? www.spacenk.com/uk/en_GB/skincare/treatment/masks/liquid-mask-lactic-acid-micro-peel-MUK300053826.html

I also came across this which I think is something different yes? www.lookfantastic.com/oskia-renaissance-mask-50ml/10539055.html

Ooh thanks for the link too. Why is it out of stock everywhere? CV? Not being discontinued?

Sometimes the beauty threads on here are a different world! I was going to recommend Sigma Aldrich but I guess that's not what you are looking for!

trumpisaflump · 27/06/2020 09:09

I have used The Ordinary lactic acid in the past and it's great.

I would either wait for the oskia one to come back into Space NK or contact Oskia direct. They are a UK brand I think and might be able to send one out to you.

I have the dropper one. It really is great for me. Not seen the other one before.

Ok I'll try to be patient...!

Have a look at bravura London. All 3 of their acids are fab.

I’ve recently started using Strivectin Advanced Glow toner and I love it.
It’s a combination of lactic and malic acid, in a Squalane solution, so its really gentle, but effective. You have to shake it before use to combine the solution.
25% off this weekend too :)

@PersonaNonGarter thanks so much for your tip to email them! They showed me this www.oskiaskincare.com/products/iluminating-edit/ which is the same price but with other travel sized products too! Thought I'd share it here :)

Oooh. That looks a lovely set. I hadn’t heard of the floral water thing.

Let us know what you think of the products Smile

Franticbutterfly · 29/06/2020 20:31

Aha's reduce the natural sun protection of your skin by a minimal amount (equivalent of spf 2 I think Hiron's said in her book) so as long as you continue using your spf each day (or stay in the house) you won't burn your face off.

EndlessUserName · 30/06/2020 12:42

Thank you @Franticbutterfly I've just read skin care too! So giving my routine a much needed update. I thought the book was great! (I'm a total noob)

I'm so excited to try them! I guess I'll use the rose water as a toner after cleansing in the morning? And then I'll try the lactic acid once or twice a week after cleansing in the eve. Does that sound about right? Not too much?

@stopfundinghate If it's not, your face will let you know pretty quickly.

As far as acids go, I rate The ordinary lactic acid, the nip and fab exfoliating pads, the first aid beauty exfoliating pads, ren glycolic mask, pixi glow tonic, alpha h liquid gold and for clearing blocked pores/bringing spots to a head, Aveda kinetics exfoliant (bha).
