My company is quite casual, but I just can't do it, I have to wear smart trousers/skirts and a fitted top/shirt with the jacket in the car or on the back of my chair otherwise i just don't feel in the zone, if that makes sense ?

MrsBadger · 26/09/2007 17:26

brief as feeding:
smartish trous or skirt - no denim
jacket that goes but doesn't match bottoms
blouse or fitted tee
boots
good bag

DrNortherner · 26/09/2007 17:32

Nice trousers and shirts
Nice trews/skirt with tops and cardi
Skirt with nice boots
Wrap dresses with tights and heels

DarthVader · 26/09/2007 17:50

Dresses with shoes or boots

twinsetandpearls · 26/09/2007 18:41

I teach, I wear mainly suits but not very corporate if that makes sense, I tend to buy from monsoon and the odd thing from marks and spencer or next. Also wear a lot of dresses and trousers with co ordinating jacket.

BBBee · 26/09/2007 19:10

good this is all really good.

I am not very good at shirts as I am not very good at ironing. Where can I buy nice long sleeve fitted t-shirts that would be okay for work?

same as mrs badger

bbbee - best style of t shirts depends on your figure

BBBee · 26/09/2007 19:13

broad shoudlers
small bust
flat stomach
waist
huge bum and thigs
fat upper arms

OP posts:
KristinaM · 26/09/2007 19:16

oooh thats hard....not sure....small bust and flat stomach shoudl allow you to wear crew neck ts but clinging not good for flabby arms

am of flat stomach

BBBee · 26/09/2007 19:18

is only flat in relationship to huge wobbly arms and bum!

Sounds like an A line skirt might be the thing - something with a simple, flat front to show off your stomach but that flares out from the hips to disguise the hips and thighs. Some fabulous boots would look great, or some kitten heels. As far as tops go - a selectionof high necked T shirts or tops with a couple of different jackets would be good. Just make sure that the jackets don't finish at the widest part of you, and that they are quite simple and well-cut. If you have a big M & S near you, I'd start there, and take a sensible friend with you. They will suggest different things for you to try on and you might be pleasantly surprised!!

I too have a big bum and thighs and found a fabulous pair of black trousers from the M & S Autograph range - black floppy crepe that is machine washable and which only cost £29.95!! They look great and I'm off tomorrow to buy a second pair!

ImBarryScott · 26/09/2007 19:40

long sleeve fitted Ts - uniqlo - here and here

they are good quality and cheap.

ImBarryScott · 26/09/2007 19:45

Also try fine-gauge fitted jumpers to show off your waist. Gap have great ones in wool, but the Primark synthetic ones are just as nice and don't bobble.

In fact I have a similar figure to you, and wear tend wide legged wool trousers, shirt/fine knit jumper/fitted top, and converse (for running around London half the day). these trousers look a bit like the sort of thing.

LittleMinx · 26/09/2007 20:46

As an estate agent i have to dress smart so wear skirt suits with smart blouse/shirt and knee length boots or nice shoes....... or smart black trousers, shirt and boots.

A line skirts are great for hiding bits!! next do a lovely black one.....jacket fits very nicely too and is very flattering.

BBBee · 26/09/2007 21:09

tjanl you thank you - barryscott you are so on the right lines I tried those trousers on and they were fab. Not sure what 'fine fitted gauge' jumper is but am off to google.

I wear tailored trousers and a blouse, mostly.

LIZS · 26/09/2007 21:56

Today I wore trousers similar to these with a fine ribbed fitted cotton cardigan top.

LittleMinx · 27/09/2007 22:25

oh i have those trousers Liz......funnily enough i also have all 3 of those shirts in the pic too i LOVE next lol

fortyplus · 27/09/2007 22:28

Usually M&S Per Una or Autograph. If I'm not seeing anyone from outside my own office then I'll wear a v-neck T. Otherwise a shirt/blouse or sometimes a suit depending on who it is. If I'm presenting to a group then always a suit.

DarthVader · 28/09/2007 16:16

Wear things fitted at the waist and with contrast colour belts over the top. Avoid chunky knits.

Fine guage is a thin knit, hth

codswallop · 28/09/2007 16:17

ablakc or grey trouser suit

and a top

LIZS · 28/09/2007 17:47

My office is freezing , ideas on comfy , warmish tops please ! Fine v neck sweaters perhaps - I keep seeing them on 2 for £20 type offers but never like more than one colour in same shop !

DarthVader · 28/09/2007 19:23

Wear a scarf if it is cold then you can take it off if it warms up?

Also consider wearing a vest!
