I'm looking for a collagen suggestion I've read lots of arguments For and against and have decided to give it a go.
If any one uses this then can you tell me which brand you use or if you have an alternative 😁

Any of the unflavoured hydrolyzed collagen powders - should be around £15 for 500g. You can add a scoop to your coffee. I used to swear by Great Lakes but it's not my experience that any of them are actually dependably non-beefy, so if you get a beefy one, send it back and try another brand in the same bracket.

Hang on. We are drinking collagen. Why don't I know about this. What does it do?! Will I be less wrinkly???

Fluffycloudland77 · 25/06/2020 16:56

It’s a bit snake-oil really but whatever. When uk dermatologists with no skin in the game (😂) start recommending it I’ll try it but you lose control of everything you eat after swallowing.

If you didn’t we could all eat a ton of doughnuts and tell our digestive system to not absorb the calories.

The biggest innovation for collagen production/stimulation is red light led face masks. Doesn’t seem to be catching on though.

healththrowawayx · 25/06/2020 18:01

Why is everyone suggesting a powder supplement over tablets?

kojolo · 25/06/2020 18:57

Higher bioavailability and cheaper. I started buying it on recommendation of the tissue viability nurse, so a slightly different use case I agree!

damnthatanxiety · 25/06/2020 21:10

can you taste it in coffee? Does it add any weird thickness or gloopiness?

slipperywhensparticus · 25/06/2020 21:11

Really? Wouldn't a pill be easier

EnoughAlready2020 · 25/06/2020 21:19

I take Absolute Collagen after my boss told me she was taking that and she wasn't having Botox when I asked 😬

Feedingthebirds1 · 25/06/2020 21:29

There was a thread about this recently if it helps:

Eating an extra portion of protein would help 🤷🏻‍♀️.

The body doesn’t know it’s supposed to direct the collagen amino acids to your skin/hair/nails.

kojolo · 25/06/2020 22:16

I mean, no it doesn't know. But once you create a sufficiency it will most likely do so. That's why one supplements with collagen protein hydrolysate when the skin suffers a major insult. If you don't actually have an open wound there's no point putting collagen on your skin as it won't pass through, so supplementation is the most reliable transport.

(And I definitely prefer the powdered hydrolysed collagen to the porcine jello shots the NHS prescribes.)

But yes, nobody is prevented from eating more chicken. Crack on. No woman will stop ye.

I take pure marine collagen powder by edible health. I had a gut biome analysis and the nutritionist advised me to take it to heal my gut. They recommended that particular one.
Whether it will do anything to my skin or gut remains to be seen.

GrumpyHoonMain · 26/06/2020 08:41

You can probably get a good level of collagen by pressure cooking shellfish shells and filtering to make a broth. I would personally save my money for botox / retinoids etc

MandalaYogaTapestry · 26/06/2020 08:47

I take Absolute Collagen and my skin looks pretty great at 41. I do do lots of other things related to skincare so it all works together. I love it that collagen has the added benefit for joints and bones, i.e. health and not just beauty.

Vodkacranberryplease · 26/06/2020 08:48

My dog walker was looking fantastic and I asked him what he had done and he said collagen and sent me a pic. Can't see a brand but they are often bovine and made little difference. I used to have them in coffee. I bought another that you can only have In cold drinks and have g taken it much but will get this one.

Just checked google images and it's by miracle greens, on amazon. He is glowing - and is outdoors all day.

Interesting but that Wellguard one has 359 calories in one portion - that is a meal if you are on a diet, does it fill you up?
