How to hide a baby bump?

LastPieceOfLooRoll · 24/06/2020 14:45

So I’m pregnant again. I’ve just returned from Mat leave and I don’t want to let work know until at least 20-25 weeks.

Has anyone got any tips on how to hide a baby bump? I showed from about 13 weeks in my first pregnancy and was very obviously pregnant by 16/18 weeks. I’ve ordered some loose fitting blouses to start wearing now, but how can I disguise it as the bump grows?

I’ve tried googling some ideas but any real life tips would be great.

TIA!

I'd google tips for apple shapes! (I am one btw!)
Putting loose layers on together will help eg dress with jacket or long Cardi so it breaks up your silhouette iyswim

But bear in mind that your body may be differently shaped this time. You may need to start dropping hints about carrying baby weight still...

I didn’t tell work until I was 20 weeks with my 2nd, I was high risk of miscarriage and pre term labour so I didn’t want too.

I wore more baggy dresses, longer jackets... I didn’t show much at all really so was very lucky.

Also bare in mind you need your mat1b to give to the midwife...so you need to tell them before 25 weeks

I wore loads of long floaty scarves and long cardis - but I don’t think this is helpful this week, you’d boil to death!

Empire lines, vnecks or scoop necks... draw the eye to an area other than the tummy...

A big bag?
Sit down a lot?
A long (thin) wide scarf draped over your front "just in Case I go I somewhere I n3ed to cover my mouth and nose"

Lots of floaty linen? Is it Cos that do clothes like this?

Thank you!

Dresses, scarves and jackets I can do!

Also sitting down a lot is something I’m somewhat of an expert in.

With the Matb1 form, I will probably tell my line manager and HR at 20 weeks but still try and keep it secret from the rest of the office.

I’m hoping I don’t have the same issues this time and my bump is nice and little but I think that’s wishful thinking on my part.

Off to google some scoop neck floaty dresses.

Ooo Bernadette I actually love that blouse in the first picture. Is that Cos?

I can’t do jumpsuits because I’m tall and I would just be displaying an area in which the baby will exit Blush

Ah I don't know - it was an image from Pinterest. I've had a neb on the Cos site and cat see it but there is lots of similar loose tops and dresses.

I’m hiding a bump/fat belly too. Tbh I find it’s easier to make myself look like I’m a bit fat Grin so trying to bring the rest out so the ‘bump’ isn’t obvious. Dark colours are your friend as you don’t want an under bump shadow. I’d also try to wear what you have if possible so you don’t suddenly start looking different.
There was a Canadian woman who wrote a piece on hiding a bump. Most of it was winter appropriate but she suggested ruffles and peplums for distraction along with statement jewellery.
As an aside if you work with men you’ll be fine. They are so blind! I was a whale with my first and remember talking to a guy in the office kitchen about how I had under a week to go to my due date and he was shocked I was pregnant. I saw him every single day! Women tend to catch on quicker.

I didn’t tell most of my work until I was about 28 weeksGrin Statement jewellery and tunic tops/floaty blouses with a skinny bottom half worked for me.

shinynewapple2020 · 24/06/2020 17:58

I recall wearing floaty dresses/tunics with a scarf. When I broke the news around 22 weeks everyone laughed and said 'wondered when you were going to tell us ....'

I just sat down a lot and spent a lot of time carrying my laptop or a large notebook in front of me Grin

In all seriousness, a colleague who was entering another country to deliver her baby and needed to hide her pregnant at immigration spent a week coming into the office each day in a different type of outfit so we could help her chose what best hid her 8 month bump. In the end wide leg trousers and a boxy shirt worked best.
