Fat face

What do we all think of fat face? I find myself drawn to their pieces recently. Is that because I've put on weight and they dress a uk size 14 well or because I've become mumsy (no gunning for me for use of that word - we all know what I mean!!).

OP posts:
theemmadilemma · 23/06/2020 07:55

I noticed the other day I have a few Fat Face pieces, so I'm clearly drawn towards some of their looks. Mainly t-shirts.

Allthepinkunicorns · 23/06/2020 08:30

I've got a few lovely fat face pieces which I wouldn't say are frumpy. I'm in my 30s but they are expensive so I normally buy there clothes in the sales or second hand on ebay. The kids clothes are good quality and last a long time.

woodhill · 23/06/2020 08:54

Beautiful scarfs. Great men's hats. I always buy in the sale.

Ratonastick · 23/06/2020 11:21

I think the tops and dresses can definitely be a bit mumsy but I swear by their jeans. I’m a good 16 and find the fit is perfect, could be designed for my arse. I like their pants as well. I first bought them in a bit of an emergency situation as there no other pants purveyors in sight but they are now my first choice. They’re good quality cotton and last really well.

evilharpy · 23/06/2020 12:14

I've had a look on the website and couldn't find a single thing I'd want to wear. It's just not my style.

dontgobaconmyheart · 23/06/2020 12:36

Not for me sorry OP. I'm sure they have Ryehe odd piece that's ok (like anywhere)but most of it makes me cringe a bit. It's like it's all designed for the aspiration of a contrived family walk in the woods in autumn where dad has the full fat face outfit on and a matching kid on his shoulders, somebody somewhere will have a t shirt with a VW camper on it. Another poster also has it fairly right with tourist holiday to cornwall.

Nothing wrong with either but it just is not for me one bit. I often get given their twee PJ's at xmas and hate them. So overpriced too.

Bagelsandbrie · 23/06/2020 12:42

I don’t understand the hate for fat face on mumsnet. I mean yes it doesn’t have the pretty style of and other stories or the edgy ness of other brands but for breathable, comfortable casual clothes it’s great! Their winter coats are amazing, so warm and lovely. I really like fat face.

Bagelsandbrie · 23/06/2020 12:43

Maybe I like it so much because we live in rural Norfolk and we need country style practical stuff!

Ginfordinner · 23/06/2020 13:16

There are some pretty bitchy comments on here. Is that really necessary?

I like some of the clothes, but I don't like the muted colours. As a jewel winter they just don't suit me. They are pretty pricey as well.

Bioprepper · 23/06/2020 13:38

I bought something for the first time from fat face 2 weeks ago. A denim jacket. i have been looking for a while and havent found one that fits the bill. i had a look through the rest of the site after it came and was perfect but i didn't like anything else. Im in my late 30s.

ForInfoOnly · 23/06/2020 13:46

Love Fatface!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 23/06/2020 13:50

It's not my cup of tea. I did buy some dungarees from there a few summers ago and they came up so big they were like a clown's outfit - I'm a pretty standard size 10 and would have needed a 4 or something.

One of my colleagues buys a lot of things from there and Whitestuff, and while she looks very nice, I always think the clothes look a bit washed out even when they are brand new.

Ginfordinner · 23/06/2020 13:52

That's my issue with the colours Judy. They looked washed out and make me look washed out. I like some of the styles though.

LadyPrigsbottom · 23/06/2020 14:02

Not my favourite shop. I've bought two dresses in there though. One looked lovely when I tried it on in the shop, but it was made of the aforementioned scratchy viscose which crinkled horribly when it got home and I could get the wrinkles out. The other was a cotton dress, which I liked for a while, but the neckline didn't suit me, so I got it altered, which didn't work out at all. It just looked wrong. So, all in all, I haven't had much success there. I don't think it's the frumpiest of shops either though. I know some fairly cool mums who shop there

PrincessHoneysuckle · 23/06/2020 14:04

I've never worn it but my 68 year old mum does

Maisiecow · 23/06/2020 14:43

TBH I couldn’t give a shiny shite if some think I look like I’ve given up to live on a farm in Cornwall, or indeed that my dress sense reminds them of their elderly relatives! I wear clothes that suit me, my personality and that make me feel comfortable and happy. There are plenty of brands out there that others rave about that I wouldn’t touch with a barge pole, but each to their own. We’re all different (thankfully!).

Ginfordinner · 23/06/2020 15:11

Well said Maisie. While FF colours don't suit me I wouldn't be rude about someone else liking their range.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/06/2020 16:22

I do agree about their colours - too much blue for my liking. I wish they did more things in black!

DragonflyInn · 23/06/2020 23:34

All my jeans are from Fat Face. By far the most flattering and suited to my shape I have found. I have a few other bits from there that I really like too - though there’s a lot of Fat face clothes that I just wouldn’t buy. Same as many places really - son is good for me, but not all.

DuckyMcDuck · 24/06/2020 09:55

I like them but sale prices only.

My gripe recently is their sizing. I'm a 12 everywhere else but easily fit into some of their size 8 shirts and yet in others I need a 16!

Fine, if you're buying I store and can try on but a complete nightmare trying to buy online.

MoltenLasagne · 24/06/2020 11:10

I love the quality of fat face hoodies for wearing on holidays but the current colours they have are very drab. Last time I went the men's were gorgeous colours and the women's these pale pastels. Their sizing is massive anyway though so mens was definitely not an option.

OLittleTownofBethlehem · 25/06/2020 07:24

I live in rural Norfolk too and do tend towards the staycation beach holiday look.

I’m 30 though and not middle aged and find there’s quite a few nice jumpers to wear with jeans.

I’ve also recently ordered the Rhio Linen Blend Jumpsuit so will see how that fits when it arrives.

I don’t like a lot of the floaty peasant tops but I think everything else is similar to other shops which people seem to like on mumsnet. Is the hate because they used to do a lot of cotton print dresses and tunics?

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 25/06/2020 07:59

I'd consider retreating to a farm in Cornwall to be the pinnacle of personal success - but I still wouldn't wear Fat Face clothes. In fairness that washed out look would be appalling on me.

(When I lived a rural life I wafted about in a mixture of Droopy & Browns and paint splattered farm shop cast offs.)

ChrissyPlummer · 25/06/2020 10:57

I like their Breton tops and I got a few of their long cardigans a couple of years ago. I like their cardigans but have found some of the material quite scratchy. I’ve got a few dresses as well. I do wish they’d use more cotton though but it seems a common theme that shops now use cheaper materials but charge as though they’re using the more expensive ones that they used originally.

ChrissyPlummer · 25/06/2020 10:58

Oh, I also used to love their hoodies but the last few years they’ve been a bit meh. I got a lovely thick one with a borg-style lining a few years ago but the latest ones are too thin for me. Disappointing.
