Redness on face

Hi everyone, I would love to hear if anyone has had any success reducing redness on the face with any products? I have redness on my cheeks, a lot more on one side than the other. BB cream usually covers it fine but I have good skin other than this and it would be great if I could reduce the redness and not need a BB cream or foundation.

Bump :) maybe the silence proves these creams don't do anything though!

Hello!

I have rosacea, which can take a few different forms. For me, it is redness and spots sometimes, when it flares up. For some people it is just redness.

If you are quite young though, I would definitely go to the GP about it, as, left to it's own devices, it can progress from a bit of redness to something more annoying.

The best thing to get rid of the bad flare ups for me, is a course of antibiotics from the GP, plus azaleic acid cream, sometimes Rosex ointment. The other thing I have not tried, but which I have seen recommended is Soolantra (on prescription).

If you don't want to go down the medical route, the best things I have used on my skin are The Ordinary products; niacinamide and zinc, Alpha Arbutin and HA, magnesium moisturiser. I don't use it at the moment though, as my skin is more or less under control.

The reason my skin is under control is because I think I have identified my triggers; for me it's alcohol, emotional stress and hormones (hormonal contraception is the only hormone I can realistically cut out, so I have done that).

Sorry, that is a lot of info^^!

Basically, I would say:

  1. get checked by GP in case it is rosacea
  2. if it is rosacea, try and identify your triggers and also take whatever the GP prescribes
  3. try the skin creams to help manage it, but, tbh, if it is rosacea, I don't think on their own, they will fix it

Hope that is helpful in some way!

l'm 61 and have noticed this over the past few months. Broken veins/redness, but also very tiny pustules, which l assume is rosacea. The pustules are only on one side of my face, though, strangely.

l've been using a specific type of skincare (face wash, facial oil and moisturiser) which seems to be keeping it under control. l still have a bit of redness on one side, but it seems to control the pustules most of the time.

l had cystic acne when l was in my teens, but my skin has been fine until recently when this started. l'm going to mention it to my GP when l eventually manage to see her. l'm using high factor sunscreen and keeping out of the sun too, apparently sunshine makes it worse.

Yes, triggers can be sunshine and just to confuse you, also very cold weather, spicy food, dairy, allergies, various specific alcohols, (I am not drinking a lot at the moment anyway, so I don't need to know which one is the worst trigger, but some people manage to drink scotch, but can't have vodka, wine, beer for example. Some people swear it is only RED wine which does it). The important thing is finding your own personal triggers, as (inconveniently) they are not the same for everyone, so it's a bit of trial and error. When I first heard that (I was diagnosed in 2011) I was horrified and thought "HOW will i ever do that?", but it all just started to fall into place and I'm fairly confident that I know what triggers mine now. Oh, the other thing which recently triggered mine, was (I think) hayfever! Once I got that under control with antihistamines and a nasal spray, my skin calmed down. It's a bugger tbh, but I'm now used to dealing with it.

Thats really interesting, I've never considered it a medical condition, just a skin complaint. I do have these tiny little red spots that have come up as well.

Triggers ha! Stress, bad eating, lack of sleep? I've got all these at the moment!
