I'm early 40's, should I stop shopping in H&M?!

Why?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 21/06/2020 21:20

I'm 54 and I like H&M but :

there's a load of synthetic -something looks "Ooh that's nice" till you touch it Eurgh

the jumpers are short and so wide and boxy

the website is shit I cannot be bothered trying to navigate it

I bought a couple of dresses in H&M , sift stretchy cotton, no ironing , patterned but subtle and pockets .

( The men's range is great for my tall skinny 20yo DS too)

I'm 43 and have no intention of stopping buying clothes from there. It's my go to shop for basics

CallarMorvern · 22/06/2020 10:09

I'm 50 and trying to find a more ethical alternative to Primark for the basics. I've had a few H&M orders and been surprisingly pleased with them, lovely thick cotton ribbed tees from the Concious range. DD got a lovely skater skirt and some little cardis, they are synthetic, but have worn and washed really well. Sizing has been surprisingly consistent.
No idea why you would stop shopping somewhere because of your age🤷

Resisterance · 22/06/2020 10:10

I'm 46 and still buy from there. I actually often buy from their teenager range as it's vat free so cheaper and the teenage boys things are often a great fit for me size 10-12.

Floisme · 22/06/2020 10:23

I'm 63 and it was one of my favourite shops until a couple of years ago. I've lost patience with it recently but that's because the local branch is very poor and I don't order from them online because I can't sort out the good stuff from the crap unless I'm there in person.

I was in a big city European branch last year and it was brilliant, like a different shop, and much of it pretty mainstream.

I second what a couple of others have said, you really need to see it in person because some things are lovely and others are shocking and there’s no way to tell online. The website is rubbish, so hard to navigate. Our local store shut down and my mum wanted a couple more tops and I can’t face wading through all the tops even with filters to find them.

I have always found the pricing points weird. Sometimes a pair of trousers or a top is priced about £15 more than a similar item for no apparent reason even if the material is similar.

I always find sizing a bit inconsistent in the kids range so if I pick up 2 t shirts of the same design both 4-6 years the size can vary wildly.

thedevilinablackdress · 22/06/2020 10:55

Why on earth? They have so many different ranges. My Mum is 73 and it's one of her favourite shops at the moment. Especially for the not-quite-Cos stuff.

thebabessavedme · 22/06/2020 13:52

I'm 57 and just got a really lovely quality white shirt dress with great big sleeves together with some really nice wedge tie up sandals and a set of blue and gold summer necklaces from h&m, looks great with my loewe straw bag and huge prada sunnies, its all how you put it together Wink

I’m heading for 70 and still shop in H&M for basics. They do great T-shirts and pyjamas and the odd bit of jewellery that looks really expensive. You have to pick and choose.

FilledSoda · 22/06/2020 14:29

I never have any luck with H&M , the sizing and the quality is quite poor IMO.
I'm confused by your question though, presumably you already shop there so you know if you like it or not. Your age doesn't matter , I don't think it's a particularly young shop.
It is cheap fast fashion though so if that's not your bag then don't shop there .

LellyMcKelly · 22/06/2020 14:36

I’m 52 and shop in H&M. Divided label does a great range of v neck cotton t shirts that can be dressed or down so are perfect For online meetings.
