Is Olaplex worth the cost?

If you have dry frizzy hair did it make a difference? Considering gifting to someone who has damaged wavy hair.

It is if you have the full service, in salon steps 1 & 2 and then follow up with weekly maintenance applications of step 3. Step 3 alone is not enough, imo. It is just a nice hair mask and you won’t see much in the way of results with it as a stand-alone product, imo.

Salon treatment of 1&2 made a massive difference to the condition of my hair; I don’t see much difference using 3 alone. If anything, using 3 makes my hair more dry as I don’t currently need the extra protein.

I’ve said this before but there’s protein based hair treatments and moisturising hair treatments. Someone who hasn’t coloured their hair probably doesn’t need protein (olaplex), your friend might benefit from a moisturising hair mask instead.

Tinyandpetite · 21/06/2020 22:24

I’d totally recommend it. I can’t wait to get my hair done again with it. Totally worth it.

EpilepsyMum4 · 21/06/2020 22:34

You won’t get the full effect of Olaplex benefits unless you have the full service. That’s not to say number 3 wouldn’t be beneficial but it’s a much diluted take home version of the salon product.

Having used Olaplex for a few years on and off since it’s trial period still can’t put my hand on heart and say it makes any difference - but I can’t prove it and I’m sucked in sometimes.

I use 3, 4, 5 and 7 at home. It does seem costly for the small bottles but they do last - you need very little .

Olaplex 3 isn’t a conditioner, nor is it a protein treatment (it contains some small protein but not a lot). It’s not a moisturising treatment either - you need to follow it up with shampoo and conditioner.

Oh. Erm...whoops...after just purchasing N0.3 tonight after ages of deliberating, I feel somewhat deflated! I do colour myhair but only with a semi permanent recently, and i have had olaplex done in a salone which left me with silky amazing hair so i went ahead and bought some to see if could help. }~What with not being able to go to a salon for ages my bob is outgrown, filled with white hairs(im dark) and goes from dry to then greasy...recently started hrt and think this messes with it, as well as thyroid condidion.

Anyway. Ive bought some. 3 that is. May well be waste of time but done now.

I was really hopefully it would make a difference to my dry damaged hair. Sadly even after a using the whole bottle my hair looked and felt exactly the same.

ouch321 · 22/06/2020 06:26

Yes my hair fell to pieces after platinuming over and over . They started using 4 percent bleach and Ola 1 and 2. Six month later I could really feel the difference.
Bought no3 from Look Fantastic for home use.

I only used step 3 and didn't find it better than a much cheaper high street hair mask.

Sushiroller · 22/06/2020 08:32

Bought 3 n9 difference
My friend did 1 and 2 at home and is very on the fence.

Confusedbutheyho · 22/06/2020 10:24

I’ve bought some but am a bit worried now. Looks like it’s a bit hit and miss!

I've bought some Ola 3 after experimenting with bleaching and colouring during lockdown. Not used it yet so watching with interest!

BinkyBoinky · 22/06/2020 11:11

I have dry, frizzy hair and I concur that Olaplex 3 didn't make much difference.

I prefer doing a rice water rinse, it's a cheap Olaplex dupe which has done amazing things to my hair, strengthened it and decreased the frizz. I always have rice in my kitchen so it's dead easy for me to do every few weeks.

Browzingss · 22/06/2020 11:17

It’s not that it’s hit and miss, it just depends on whether your hair is lacking in protein or not. It will only make a noticeable difference if it’s suited to your hair concerns.

Livingoffcoffee · 22/06/2020 11:20

It's definitely been worth it for me. I had 1 & 2 at the salon, but that was 4months ago now and my bleached hair has been feeling dry and miserable in lockdown.

Would definitely suggest leaving it on way longer than 10min though. For the first week, I left it on overnight every night for 3 days. Now do it once a week, but again leave it on overnight.

Honestly has made a huge difference for me

Bluebell79 · 22/06/2020 16:21

I just bought this last week, have dyed hair. A few years ago I had steps 1 & 2 done in a salon, made my hair feel lovely And silky but after washing noticed no difference, I don’t think the shampoo products existed back then.

My new hairdresser raves about the products so I decided to splash out last week, haven’t used the no 3 Treatment yet but have used the shampoo (4) conditioner (5) and the styling cream/serum (6) 3 times, it’s made my hair greasy and spotty on my neck, not had this before, I knew you only needed a small amount and each time I try to use less. I’m not impressed, not even tried the no3 treatment or the no7 oil yet.

I do usually use a hair oil.

Confusedbutheyho · 29/06/2020 21:20

I got it and had good reviews that the curls were defined and less frizz but I’m not sure as this persons hair is very dry at the ends usually.

Not sure protein is the way forward for dry hair!
