Whenever I read threads on here about to be stylish, not 'frumpy', look like you're wearing expensive clothes etc etc. there's always loads of people pile in about how they look for natural fabrics and avoid the dreaded viscose or polyester.

So come on then, link me to some stylish clothes in natural fabrics- where on earth are they because unless you are going to pay a fortune everything seems to be synthetic! Oh, and I hate wool jumpers- the itchiest substance known to man!

There is polyester and there's polyester. Some of it is good.

I don't like viscose, lyocell, bamboo or modal.

BusterGonad · 20/06/2020 18:09

Mike how do you know if its good polyester?

Regarding cotton and the use of water- although it uses a lot of water to produce cotton, water can't actually be destroyed and dried up- the water used will still be somewhere in the environment, just maybe not in the lake it was destined for! Remember your science! As for toxic dyes- well that's the same for any fabric, natural or otherwise, and there are organic dyes available. Cotton still has to be better than synthetic in terms of the environment due to the fact when we have finished with it it will decompose far more easily than plastic based materials.

I’ve got to say that I agree with the pp who mentioned how bad cotton is for the environment. Huge water use for crops is terrible for the environment, I had no idea until I saw the Stacey Dooley programme, it’s often a disaster for surrounding areas and it’s not as simple as water still being “there”
I’m not saying don’t buy cotton, just don’t assume it’s the best option for the environment just because it’s natural

@FreakStar you are wildly off about water usage! We are-globally-using our groundwater in an unsustainable way and I really recommend you look in to it a bit if environmental impact is important to you

I also like viscose which is WAY better than polyester and less expensive than cotton or linen. Usually breathes well (and I’m a sweaty person).

It is interesting that so many people love Viscose. To me it is the Devil. What you say about Polyester is true for me with Viscose. If I wear it on my top I get a sweaty forehead and neck and back. If I wear it on my lower part I get a back that runs in sweat. Same for Culpro, lyocell and all those other ones.
