Morning. Reading about menopause and weight loss, I keep coming across collagen powder. I wonder if it's a US thing but do any of you take it? Have you noticed any benefits?

I'm 48 perimeno and until recently wracked with joint pain, exhaustion and monthly toothache, wobbliness and eventual loss every few months. But I have been taking vitabiotics menopace plus and perfectil plus skin supplements. This month I've experienced very little joint pain or tooth loss/ache just a bit of bloating, boob tenderness, teariness and heavy bleeding cut down to 3 days from 7.
Quite miraculous as I could hardly straighten my body out after sitting down for short periods.
I'm not trying to hijack the thread - just
wondering if anyone has tried the vitabiotics collagen drinks as I would like to try but pricey. Possibly worth purchasing as the loss of earnings through pain and lack of energy may outweigh the cost!
I didn't know about weight loss with collagen but am bookmarking threadfeeling fat bloated and frumpy but monthly pain was bothering me more. Also have a lot more energy taking these supplements. Feel the price is worth paying.

Isn’t collagen just gelatin? As kids we were often given a jelly cube for ‘strong hair, teeth and nails’. I’m sure the amount of Haribo I eat contributes to my youthful good looks (and also my plumpliness 😂)

@Luddite26 you're not hijacking this thread at all, it is so useful to hear about other women's experiences. I too have the Vitabiotics Menopace Plus tablets. Problem is, I am crap at taking them. I honestly don't know what to do with myself to make sure I take them regularly. I also have Vitamin D and Osteocare, and they just sit there on my desk.

No it's not the same as gelatin. It's a hydrolyzed form (intensively broken down for ease of absorption) of collagen. Gelatin is a cooked form of (non hydrolyzed) collagen. While there are similarities they're not the same. I'm sure a lot of the cheaper powder could potentially be gelatin, or partially. The ingredient list really has to state 'hydrolyzed collagen'.

@BloggersNetwork - hankyou. I know exactly what you mean. This month I have made a massive effort to take them after my tea and religiously and I have felt much better for it. I had a blood test last year thinking I had rheumatoid arthritis but it came back as vit d deficient so I have been taking that as much as possible. Just hard when you are busy but the difference im feeling is worth trying to remember. Sounds silly when people have to take life saving drugs but I'm such a scatterbrain.
