If you can’t try things on in shops, there isn’t much point, is there?

I need some new running leggings. I ordered some online but the fit isn’t right on me. So I thought “oh, well, I will just go and try some on” - and then realised that the places I would normally go to are not allowing you to try on clothes...

Order loads from next on account and send back what you don't want . No money upfront and they sell all the brands. I work in retail and I don't want to touch all the clothes after they have. Even tried on!

I agree @Notcontent, I just said this to friends.
I’ll stick to online and local independent shops, it’s an 80 mile round trip for us to get to the nearest decent city for shopping so to not be able to try on and then have to go back to return is too much hassle.

Notcontent · 18/06/2020 13:59

Yes, and at least with online it’s easy to return. Imagine having to queue twice - first to buy something, and then to return it...

Yeah it’s pointless. For various reasons including this I’m not going to bother with physically going in shops until all this is over. Online will suffice.

Is it true that shops can't re-sell items that have been returned? And that they are "disposed of"?

Of course not. Usual practice with any retail return is to put the item aside for 3 days.

Not that useful if you can only afford Primark prices though.

I like to look at and feel clothes before buying them. I hate trying stuff on. All that faff undressing and redressing so its not a big deal to me personally. The main reason I won't be heading to the shops is because I have nowhere to wear nice shiny new clothes Sad.

oohnicevase · 18/06/2020 15:51

Retailers are quarantining the clothes before they get sent to someone else .

I hate online shopping!
Whilst I would prefer to try on - I can guesstimate quite well or use a tape measure
Last night I called in to M & S for a few bits of food also bought a linen dress, denim shirt and swimsuit in sales

Tried on at home all fit ok - it felt like a bit of a return to normal for me Smile

You can still look at the type of fabric and get a sense of the actual colour. Often things are wider, shinier, cheaper looking etc than they looked online. You could then order online if you like the look of something and the shop has a website for orders. They should probably start giving people a bag that seals for postage and a returns label over the counter in stores, so that people won't have to queue or enter the shop again for returns.
