I really do have dry everything. Hair, facial and body skin and even dry cracked heels. Skin and heels I know how to manage Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise!

I've never cracked my dry hair - particularly the ends.

Oils - no difference
Elasticiser- very minor difference
Sulphate, paraben free shampoo and conditioner- zilch difference
No conditioner- no difference
Expensive shampoos - no
Cheap shampoos- no
Heat protectant- no

Can anyone enlighten me please.

Many thanks

Another one for the hair foods. I'm using the aloe Vera one and it's great!

Another vote here for the Garnier Hair Food. Last night I applied to my dry hair and left it in overnight. After washing it out this morning, my hair was baby soft and smelt delicious! I used the Papaya one but my hair is dry due to bleaching, Banana might be better for you

For me a combination of things works. I use any old shampoo to be honest , but always follow with Maui moisture conditioner , the pink one. I then add banana hair food (garnier) as a leave in while my hair is still wet. I style with a straightening brush once my hair is dry , I've got the dafni one and it's pretty gentle. Also , regular trims are important. I've been doing this for just over a year and it's much less dry and easier to handle.

Have you tried egg yolk? Literally, wash your hair as normal, then whisk up an egg yolk with a couple of tablespooons of olive oil. Massage that into your hair, leave for 10 mins, and rinse out with tepid water (no shampoo).

The other day I tried an apple cider vinegar rinse and my hair feels amazing now. I suppose it gets rid of all the build up.

haverhill · 21/06/2020 20:45

OP, try co-washing at least some of the time. Use a silicone- free conditioner to avoid build-up. It really helps with dryness.

kmini · 27/06/2020 09:01

@haverhill how often to you co wash and is it hard to transition to doing this. Eg greasy locks

I vary from every other wash to every wash.
It worked for me immediately but for some people it takes a few washes to settle.
My hair feels fresh light and clean but doesn’t have that stripped rough feeling.
It may take a while to find the right product. I use Garner Coconut one (pale blue bottle)z

This is my 50 year old hair.
I had just done a coconut oil treatment too ( full disclosure!)Grin

Dry hair. What can I try next.

Another vote for Garnier hair food. I use the mask as my conditioner, the macadamia one.

Have you ever asked a hairdresser to assess your hair type and advise products?

You need to work out whether your hair is coarse, medium or fine and then work out if it needs protein or moisture or both. Is there a cause to the dryness? E.g., over processing, bleaching, use of heated appliances? You can then work out what your hair needs.

Some of the treatments you've tried are protein treatments which can make hair drier and prone to breakage. Some hair types do not respond well to protein, some need protein to strengthen and provide the rigidity to stop moisture loss. If protein treatments are too strong for your hair type they can cause brittleness and dryness.

Examples of protein treatments would be conditioners with keratin, Shea, wheat, oat, plant protein (egg treatment as mentioned above) or any that claim to repair, reconstruct or strengthen hair.
If prolonged use of moisturising treatments are still leaving your hair dry then you may need to introduce protein in

It's all a bit of a mine field finding the right balance. Confused

Lee Stafford at boots does a scalp massager & hair growth scalp serum I’ve just ordered it. The ordinary also do a scalp serum.

I agree with extra water, if your skin loses it easily you need to keep topped up.
