Removing Milia

I've got two horrible raised white spots in my eye socket, to the side of my nose. I'm sure they're milia.
YouTube videos show people sticking a sterilised needle in and popping them out.
So far, I've made by skin bleed but can't seem to master the popping bit. Does anyone know an easy method?

I squeezed my ones with tweezers thy have all gone

fantasmasgoria1 · 16/06/2020 13:43

They can be very stubborn! Sometimes you think you have gotten it out but later you can see it still in there. I gently squeeze the milia, pierce the skin slightly cutting it with the needle then I squeeze to get it as near the surface as possible and use the needle to flick it out. It usually takes a few goes!

You have to poke the needle through the side of the lump and then out if the other side, without poking into it and damaging the layer of skin below (why it's bleeding). After a shower or bath is best.

The gently ease it out. I know a lot of people are very against doing this but imo it's the only way to get rid of them. You should only be left with a bit of skin the dries up and falls off within a few days

Dh had a —lovely— milia under his eye. He wouldn’t let me at it but one day he caught it and it scabbed over. I put one of those clear pimple stickers over it and when it came out it was like a pearl. And no scar.

DancetheBluesAway · 16/06/2020 15:32

Thanks all.
So poke the needle through the side rather than the top? Flat or at angle?

DancetheBluesAway · 16/06/2020 16:18

Scrap the questions I've got them. Poked needle quite hard at about 45', squeezed firmly then lifted out with the end of the needle. I may be scarred for life but at least they're gone. Thanks for the advice.

My dad has a large one under his eye which has gotten bigger. I watch Dr Pimple Popper all the time,...... I'm sure with some local anasthetic, a syringe, and a scalpel I could sort it out. He doesn't seem so keen... well done you in getting it out.

Funny that you should ask today. I woke up with three new small ones, I've had one right in the corner of my eye socket just like you, for a couple of years. I was going to get it professionally removed but then covid happened. I've removed a couple of others before but the eye one is scary!

whiteblue · 16/06/2020 17:35

Be careful. I went to the dermatologist yesterday as I had 3, my first 3 ever, under my eye. Except they weren't milia despite looking like them. They are seborrheic keratosis which are not squeezable. They need freezing off or similar.

I used the Paula's BHA lotion on mine. It went away gradually and overall seemed to improve skin.

Browzingss · 16/06/2020 18:39

My foul proof method is lancing it with a sterile needle and placing a blister plaster on top overnight. The plaster will suck the gunk out or severely reduce the size of it, then it will completely go away by itself within a few weeks

Browzingss · 16/06/2020 18:42

I never squeeze/force anything out, I just leave it to the blister plaster

My children (teens) have lots.
I have been looking into gentle remedies.
Honey, tea tree and lots of exfoliating apparently. I am aware that this method will take forever!

Bargainhuntbore · 16/06/2020 19:11

Ive always had them. Then heard that level 3 beauty students were desperate for milia sufferers to have them removed. Totally free and really easy.

Try a local college once open.

fiorentina · 16/06/2020 19:25

I’ve always used a sterilised needle, made a hole and then pushed out from the other side. Or used point of tweezers if the position is convenient.
